1 Timothy 2:9
9Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments
This verse says it the best. We are to dress modestly before the Lord. This is not to say you cannot wear jeans and a t-shirt, but it says the jeans should not have a hole in the butt and the t-shirt shouldn't reveal a bustline that could cover half of Chicago. The same can be said for men. You don't have to wear a suit, but don't wear sleeveless shirts, this can cause a lust issue in the women.
Dress modestly, don't cause people to sin.
Matthew 18:7
[ Stumbling Blocks ] "Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For [Luke 17:1; 1 Cor 11:19; 1 Tim 4:1] it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!

'Required'? As in posting dress codes at church?
Most churches today are so thankful that ANYONE comes that they are unwilling to limit things.
Sure, it is a weird sensation to see some of the ways people dress for church, and it can cause some problems with others, but I think that if this was a real concern that the best solution is a quick, politely phrased comment from someone... such as maybe... you?
Our society now is very much a 'come as you are' place. We wear the oddest things in the oddest places- in some ways I think it is a good sign that people are treating church as a place they feel comfortable wearing casual things at.

I would think anyone going to church would dress modestly for it simply out of respect... I mean, I'm not religious, but I certainly wouldn't go into a church of any religion dressed for clubbing or anything.

I think it would set a good example for others. One can dress both casually and modestly. When one is in God's House (regardless of denomination), dressing appropriately shows respect for our Lord as well as the rest of the congregation.
Thank you for asking this question.

Yes, I do believe so.
It's showing the proper respect for God and Jesus.
And it's showing that you have respect for yourself as well.
*I think it does make you a more spiritual person - at least in the sense that you know you have God's approval in that matter. You know he is smiling at the way you carry yourself. Especially if you are professing to be doing his will.
Like going to work. Most jobs have a dress code. If you break it, you risk getting fired. How much more so would you want to dress appropriately to give reverence to the most High God?

Yes. It doesn't matter if you bought your clothes at Nieman Marcus or the Goodwill Store, but you should show respect to God and to others around you.
By respect, I mean, don't expose yourself unbecomingly. I wear jeans, a Tshirt and tennis shoes to Church. My church is open like that. But, it wouldn't be proper in a Catholic Church, I don't think.
Dress according to the tastes of the Church. Same as going to a wedding. You wouldn't wear cut-off jeans, and a halter top there.
Blend in with the others. Show respect.

Heck no! If by some fluke I end up in a boring old church listening to some guy rant about magical beings from his pulpit, I at least want be able to look at a fine choir girl in short skirt and a tight shirt. Then maybe I can "pray" that she drops here sheet music and has to bend over and pick it up.

I don't think God really minds for himself, all he sees is your heart and really that's what matters but for people around(guys maybe) it might be nicer to dress modestly. The bible talks about and you should look it up and get your own opinion. It doesn't make you less spiritual

Yes. We can worship God better if we are dressed well enough to speak to the King of kings. We also help people pray better if we are modestly dressed. God is pleased with us and people are pleased with us.

Modesty is important and should be expected for church services.
Though Modesty is hard to define, extreme cases of people not being modest should be addressed.
Two weeks ago we had a young girl whose family is members of the congregation that we addressed concerning her extremely short skirt.
We would not have addressed her if she was visiting.
