Actually there is a big moeny ongoing anti drug growning effort in the area. Not spraying however. The Solution is alternative crops. You just can't grow coffee or Corn in the mountians of Afganistian. So give then something else worth growing and they will. Same applies to Mexico, Colombia or the guy down your block with the 100 pot plants in the basement.

No. Drugs have been around forever. There will always be more drugs because that's what some people do. They make money off of drugs. We just have to decide whether we are going to be a participant of that kind of life. I prefer to resist it like the plague.

The only other source of income for the CIA is the American taxpayer. Count your blessings. Since there are going to be fortunes made with illegal drugs, shouldn't a good chunck go to the CIA instead of organized crime outfits.

The main problem the US finds in trying to eradicate crops such as the opium poppy in Afghanistan, and the coca plant in Columbia, is that we're ready to destroy the only cash crop these people have, but have nothing in line for them to replace it with. Figure that out, and the people will fall in line. Theoretically. (yes, it's more complicated than that, but i don't have all day)

Because the Afghan government does not want chemicals / herbicides used to reduce the poppy fields. They would rather try to get ride of them by human labor.

Agent Orange was found to be carcinogenic to people.
Its easier to burn them.

The Afganistan president doesn't want air spray because it poisons the ground and no president wants their villages sprayed with stuff that kills things.
