As others have said, see if the amount is enough to make a significant difference - it might not be worth the hassle of filing an amended return if you'd just get back $20 or something like that.

As to the person who said that if you don't amend, claim the amounts from 2006 on next year's return, that's bad advice and would be illegal.

It depends on how much the taxes were and how you filed. It's a little bit of a hassle to amend the return, but it may be worth it if the vehicle taxes paid were significant.

I would amend if the vehicle taxes paid were over $200, but its up to you. If you choose not to amend, I would definately use that deduction next year (ie deduct your 2006 & 2007 vehicle tax on your 2007 return).

It really depends, its always good to add everything and see, because we dont know if it makes a difference until we add it. I am a tax preparer and we always ask our clients all the questions as far as itemizing goes, because it might make a difference and it might not!! Better to be with than without that extra money!!

Did your tax return generated a Schedule A (Itemized Deductions)? If not, then don't worry about it.
