There is Matthew 10:32-34, Mark 8:38, Luke 10: 21-23, John 3:16
One of the more direct ones John 3:36
"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."

I could go on, but I doubt you are asking to be enlightened.
And yes, if Ghandi didn't accept Christ then he is in Hell. No amount of good deeds can get you into Heaven. And on that note, what is "good", except the things that come from God and not the things men see as good

Jesus Births his people into his spirit by his grace. The accept Jesus Christ doctrine is false.Children of God all have one thing in common. They are all born spiritually dead.So dead that they will not come to Christ so that they might have life.So what has to happen. They must be born again. This birth is what saves them. And Christ does this at divine quickening. He wakes his people up who have been asleep in nature.Asleep in their sins.He awakes them to righteousness, and impute his righteousness in them.

You're right, never does god send people to rot in hell for eternity. At worst, their spirits failed to live on... John 3:16 (i'm sure you know it) the promise is made that if you believe you will get eternal life. So the punishment for not believing is not eternal life in hell, it's death. If you look closely the modern idea of Hell is not supported in the Bible at all, but there is confusion because God sends Satan to hell for eternity and they translate a few different words to mean hell when they are really different things.

It's amazing how capable all of these "Christians" are ready to pass judgement upon someone. Have you been to hell? Did you say hi to Ghandi? We are warned not to judge others lest we be judged. Please be careful about how you allow hate to poison your hearts in the name of Christianity.

Have you ever heard the term Judeo-Christian? Well, Christianity is Judiasm by the way of Jesus Christ. In the Old Testament, salvation was based on the faith that God the Father was going to send a Messiah, which means savior. Since over 100 prophecies of this savior were fullfilled in the person and work of Jesus Christ, salvation now lies in him. How can imperfect people make themselves perfect? It is impossible, yet every world religion and faith is based upon their merit. Do not trust my words, but find this out for yourself. Are you a sinner? Of course you are, every human being has committed sins. Since we are all criminals in one way or another, do we not deserve the penalty for our evil behavior? The wages of sin is death (physical and spiritual, which equals hell) Jesus Christ paid for your sins and for everyone that will simply put their trust in him. If you beleive in your heart that Jesus Christ died and rose from the dead for your sins, ask him to forgive your sins and be your Lord. Salvation is that simple. It doesn't depend on your righteousness, but on God's alone. Unfortunately, all those that reject this great salvation will spend eternity in darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

From the christian point of view God is absolutely pure, so far above humans, that all of us are sinners, even the Gandhis, Nelson Mandelas and Mother Theresas. The Hitlers, Stalins and Tamerlanes demonstrate the full depravity to which humans can sink.

This is witnessed in the Old Testament atonement ceremonies, and exclusion from the Holy of Holies in the Temple of the Hight Priest except on the day of Atonement, and complicated sacrificial rules, and stringent Law the Jews were burdened with, which was to show them that they weren't good enough in their own strength. Also direct encounters with Jehovah by prophets such as in Isaiah 6 make His holiness clear.

People who have had visions of Gods throne room have felt desperately sinful in the presence of Jehovah. That is, I've read and heard several accounts, by decent christians, they were people who haven't accomplished anything dramatic like Gandhi or Mandela, but they may be just as good as those 2 heroes of the 20C in human terms.

The New Testament says you can only be accepted by God through grace - and in the New Testament Jesus is presented as the Saviour who died to pay for our sins. When we believe He is our Saviour and Lord we are forgiven.
Romans 3:23-25
"All alike have sinned, and are deprived of the divine glory; and all are justified by Gods free grace alone, through his act of liberation in the person of Christ Jesus. For God designed him to be the means of expiating sin by his death, effective through faith."
John 3:16
"God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that everyone who has faith in Him may not perish, but have eternal life."

People who have not heard the christian message will probably be judged according to how they responded to the revelation of God they got.
E.g. in Acts 10, Peter says that God had regard for the Centurion Cornelius because of his piety as a Roman following Jewish ideas - God enabled him to hear the gospel by supernatural guidance.

People who are mentally incapable of reasoning or children who die young are not responsible for their actions, so won't be judged.

If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)

"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man shall come to the father but through me." Pretty much says it all.

Is he rotting in hell? Not yet, but if he heard the word and did not accept the savior, likely he will be when everything is tossed in. You are responsible for answering when you are called.
