most credit card counseling services are far more expensive than what they are worth. You need to change your habits. That is not spending more than you make and working within a budget you create. If someone else does it for you, you won't learn how to fend for yourself. (Think of dieting, nobody else can eat less for you and you loose the weight, you have to do the sacrificing.)
First, get (fast!) $1000 in a savings account. Sell stuff, get a second job.
Second, write a budget
Third, start with the smallest debt and pay that off first then move to the next card with the money you were using to pay off the first card and keep rolling it over to the next debt. Getting the second job will help with this and selling stuff and doing and following the budget will help you find money.
Evaluate your car situation. Can you pay the car off in 12-18 months? If yes, keep. If no, sell the car, buy a beater until you get out of debt so you don't have car payments.
Go to www.daveramsey.com for more information and some budget forms.
Read The Total Money Makeover for budget forms and how to do all these steps in detail and his book will help you deal with creditors if they are calling you. (We have paid off over $15k in 1 1/2 years doing his program.)
You can do it, you just need to take control of your finances!

Sorry to hear you are losing sleep over this debt, I am glad you are looking to resolve the situation. Before you call the CCCS have you approached the creditors with your problem? most are pretty good when you are up front with them, or have you gone to your back to see if they are able to help you out with a loan? Most banks or credit unions will help with a loan and close out all your credit cards, this is important so you don't fall in the same situation again.

What you need to do before you do anything is to do some research. I know that is not the magic answer that solves all of the problems, but hopefully you can avoid new problems if you are armed with just a bit of knowledge.
Yahoo Finance has some good articles.
Also, check out Motley Fool. Here is a link to their credit guide.
http://www.fool.com/ccc/ccc.htm
Also, here is a very large list of personal finance articles. There are all sorts of topics in this one and they are mixed together.
http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/Archive.html
Go thru these and spend a few hours reading articles. You may find that you can get yourself out of debt with just a few simple steps. It won't happen overnight though.

The best thing you can do to get out of credit card debt, and believe me, I know, I am a credit counselor, is to go out and find someone who will help you finance a brand new boat. Contrary to popular belief, the financial return on a boat is out of control right now. The boats value will double in 6 months. If you get an expensive enough one, you should be able to pay off your debt in around 12 months. I would not visit CCCS as those people try and steal your money from you instead of paying it to your debtors, and then they rake in teh checks when they get you to file bankruptcy.

So basically you have gotten to the point where you are willing to admit that you are a failure in life. That you can not handle a simple credit card, and refuse the urge to overspend. I would recommend getting 3 more jobs, and taking care of this debt. This will make it so that you are earning enough to pay the debt, and also make it so you have no free time to spend your money, since you can't control that anyways. Another option is to flee the country, and find a mexican lover.

I have found on the net that there are a lot of things about fixing your credit you can buy some good some not. I started to use one of those companies that help with consolidation but, I bought these programs that have worked wonderfully. If you follow their easy instructions you will improve you credit and credit score. They even have the forms or letters you should use to send to the credit bureaus. I even bought the programs for my daughter who filed bankruptcy and she has improved her credit also. They teach you everything, how to increase your fico to reading your report and how to go about cleaning your report. I try to tell everyone about these programs because they are so good. These people know what they are talking about and have done the research and they are patterned after someone who filed bankruptcy and how he fixed his credit and now has even better than he had. I feel I have gotten my moneys worth buying them. The address is www.comingbackstrongfinancially dot com.
