Example, that dude with the photo from Abu Gharib, I'd sure love to see a case for that guy asking a legitimate question.

----

Imus I suppose is fair game but whatever, I asked one about that, got great responses, but I wasn't trying to be mean I was just throwing it out there without malice.

----

I asked a great one this morning about the Bible, got maybe 5 answers,

Is the reality that Yahoo Answers is just a place where theres maybe 10-15 decent people left at any given time, probably 50-60 people daily but not using it at the same time,
and the rest are just jerks and losers just trying to get a rise, also known as the troll?

I don't ask this question as a heh trolls suck, theres nothing new there, and everyones just going to agree with me.

----

Just a stupid question I have, why do people use Yahoo Answers to be mean to other people of other religions
-
And obviously not everyone useing it does this.

What motivates the anti-religious troll?

Everyone gets a life, but not everyone lives it.

I ask questions to learn, I want to grow in my understanding, but unfortunately not everyone feels the same way I do.
Some people see things in such a negative way and they just end up exposing their own lack of knowledge.

Your question is a GREAT one, I have thought about asking myself.

Me, I like to make fun of everyone and everything (including myself, don't worry) because fun makes the world go around. There's nothing so serious it can't be joked about; equally there's nothing so funny it can't be taken seriously (as I've learned - to my immense frustration - in R&S!)

But I try to make fun from a position of some knowledge of my "target", and usually have a point to make somewhere along the line. Straight out abuse is an easy out when you're backed into a corner - and some people live their entire lives in a corner. For me writing like this gives me time to think and (usually) come up with something more creative than four-letter arguments - I'm actually much ruder in "real life"!

As to trolls what can I say: some people are just twats, Sean, some people are just twats.

Probably because people respond flippantly to flippantly asked questions, e.g.,

Who will be your date to the Religion and Spirituality Category's Mayor's April Spring Formal?

Subj: Be fruitful and multiple. Question: Wouldn't multiple wives lead to more multiplication?

God is everywhere" Does God check in on Mardi Gras during New Orleans, does God throw beads?

Atheists, what if you are wrong and I am right, and Spongebob Squarepants (PBUH) really is God?

Quick poll: Submit to jesus, or get inserted into the Matrix, memories whiped of course, steak tastes good?

Who is Debbie and what is she doing in Dallas? What is Debbie's Religion?

What would you do if a knock was at the door of your home and a man said Hi Im Sean from yahoo answers?

As long as persons think this forum is a place to act out while hiding behind anonymity, versus actually asking meaningful questions seeking sincere answers, we will continue to be inundated with the detritus of a person's mind.

Well,if you're asking about people who use Y!A JUST to be mean to others... well, those are just cowardly bullying trolls who have nothing better to do with their time and wouldn't dare to speak up face-to-face.

If you are, however, referring to a lot of people on Y!A who are occasionally rude towards others... well, I admit, I was guilty of that crime a couple of times. We all have our limits and seeing a lot of other troll questions sometimes adds that last drop over the brim.. and you feel the need to retaliate, so you ask a rude question in return. Not a very mature thing, I know, but sometimes it just feels good to be immature.
After all, we're not the "turn the other cheek" type, are we.

The anonymity of the internet and the ability to behave like a complete jackass without any "real" repercussions is the driving force for most trolls, I think.

These are people who likely wouldn't say any of it in real life, so they hide behind the anonymity of the internet because it makes them feel "big".

There are those who claim that they're "just playing" and that they're really "nice people in real life", but I think that in order to be able to come up with some of the crap they post (let alone have the mentality that it's okay to post it because it's "anonymous"), they have to have to have a deep-seated core of assholishness that they draw on to begin with.

I'd say there are probably 20 decent people on at any given point. But as for what they (the trolls) use as motivation...... who knows? I think some of these people just get off on having any kind of attention thrown at them, be it good or bad.

This is not a stupid question... very senstive one actualy !! you are right only a small percentage of positive people is left here and rest are jerks.... what i could see is that this era has added a lot of hatred and intolerance for each other among the communities, nations and even indivual levels...this has made us frustated and some people just control that frustation and get positive while rest let it occupy them and they turn negative and this negativity takes their sense of respect for others....and they can easily let others down and this forum is a best place for that..you are hidden, no one can catch you, you just pour out your frustation and go away.....no charge left ! negative people are generaly very coward !

take care !

Not a stupid question, actually a very legitimate one to which I do not have an exact answer because of lack of understanding the motivation of these "participants". But I think they are just looking to stir things up out of boredom perhaps...Pangel's answer made much sense.

People find it easy to be spiteful when they are hiding behind a computer screen. If you want the Biblical answer to your question, Sean, it's because inside all of us is the capacity to do evil. If the story ended there it would be a sad one indeed, but thankfully we have the hope of God to look forward to!

Charlene

Being able to say stuff online that could get him/her/it arrested for hate crimes if acted out face to face with someone. YA is a public forum; all forums have restrooms somewhere...
