I prayed right up until the end. Once I finished reading the Bible I realized I'd been wasting my time.

Sure I did. Many years ago I asked god to reveal himself to me in any way possible. I asked with an open heart and open mind. But all I ever got was a stony silence. I've read the bible quite a number of times in hopes of finding something there. In the end, I had to give up and face the fact that there are no deities. At least none that are interested in me.

No, I was much too angry at God to pray to Him. But I did a fair amount of yelling. lol.
It took a special effort from God to bring me back. Otherwise, I'd probably still be atheist.
Hey, if atheists can answer questions directed at Christians, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Be thankful I'm identifying myself.

I was raised christian, went to a private christian school. I believed with all my heart that god was real, I had been baptized and I accepted jesus in to my heart. As I got older I started to question the bible and the church. Then I started to ask questions about god. I was losing faith. I was afraid, I prayed to god every day to help me through my lack of faith, I asked for proof, signs, even the slightest feeling that he was really there. I was afraid of going to hell. Then one day it came to me. He wasn't real, he didn't exist. My mind opened up on that day, I've been a free thinker ever since.

I prayed for over 2 years while slowly loosing faith. If God existed and wanted me to be saved, he would have found a way to answer. He didn't.

I never really prayed anything other than Our Fathers, Hail Marys and such. I never really thought to do any other kind, because I thought that if thousands of people prayed and didn't get any answer, why would one stand out any more.

I tried prayer many times but my problem was that I always knew that it was for nothing. The fact that I had to face was the disappointment in my family when they learned that I didn't believe in God. I kept praying for the sake of not hurting them, but I actually kept lying to myself in order to keep my loved ones happy. I realized one day that they had to accept my feelings and immediately felt as though I had been set free from jail.

I prayed all the time. It was traumatic for me coming to the realization that everything I had grown up believing was nothing more than a fairy tale. I was guilt-ridden, and grief-stricken. It took a long time for me to accept that I didn't believe, and it took me a long time to be fully OK with it. Now I'm happier than I've ever been.

Atheism just sorta' became obvious to me.
I didn't try to 'hang on' to my indoctrinated beliefs, any more than a child would try to hang on to believing in Santa Claus. It just becomes so incredibly obvious- that there is no going back.
You cannot pray to a god that doesn't exist to help you believe in him.

Yes, I did all of those things. But what caused me to ultimately choose atheism is that the more I learned about christianity, the bible and religion in general, the more I realized what a crock it was. I finally let my common sense take over and let go of religion.
