For the record, I am an atheist and I do lead an incredibly happy, productive and loving life.

Well, I do believe that an atheist can lead a productive, loving life and be a good person, but in my opinion, it is important to have some kind of Spiritual beliefs to be truly happy.

I believe it is possible for each of us to lead a happy, productive, joyful, blissful, loving life. That power is in each of us and it is just a matter of tapping into that source from within.
We are all individuals with different beliefs, hopes, goals, desires, preferences, behaviours and thoughts. If we can all respect each other, accept those differences, not pass judgement and be true to ourselves, that everyday happiness would simply be a part of life!

It's not a matter of belief. I do it every day and more so since abandoning theism. I used to tithe about 30% of my income to the church. Now I give closer to 40% to charities and causes that actually accomplish something besides expanding the church and the pastor's waistline. I started choosing my freinds on the content of their character instead of their common belief. the freindships have certainly been more reliable. My career has done much better now that I'm not in church or volunteering all week long, and my health as well since I'm getting regular exercise and eating right. Atheism has been good for me. I wish I had wised up fifty years sooner.

I honestly believe everyone has the potential to lead a very happy and productive life, full of lots of love and laughter. Not everyone has the same beliefs, and they don't have to. Happiness comes from within, not from any outside source.

Yes, of course because my family and everyone that I know is an atheist. We live a good life. And we are wonderful people who wants the best for everyone. We don't need a spiritual person to make us have a good life. We do it ourself. We make the best that life bring us. even if there may be goods and bads, but we stay strong without god help. No one can plan your life but yourself. People say god have plans for everyone. I say, We are the one planning our own life. Come on, did god really plan your life. or is it your own decision. Does not matter though. I understand people believe in god so they strength that someone is looking down on them. It give them hope. but to me families and friends is the one that can give you things god can never give you. Love, hug comfort. Believe what u believe in as long as it help u have a wonderful life. No one can stop u from it but yourself.

Yes, of course. We all got here the same way and we will we all have to leave here. I don't think what you believe in the middle makes any difference! It's all a "belief", not facts, no matter if you're christian, muslim, atheist or a tribe that believes a dragon in the sky runs everything!

It doesn't depend on what one claims to be, but what one actually is and how they act like and the decisions they make behind closed doors....doesn't really help to say: "i lead a happy and productive life etc. because of this this and that" if its all a lie

I don't think so. Not that they are unhappy now- it's probable they are leading happy, productive lives right now. But, I think that as we grow closer to death, the concept of having nothing else to look forward to would catch up to them. Human beings are too complex a creature to accept that there is no afterlife or no meaning to life other than the here and now.

Of course. In fact, they are probably more likely to live a better life if they have their own beliefs than if they follow someone elses. People can and will do whatever they want regardless of having a religion or not. Religion should be your own ideas on how to live, not a rule book someone else made up for you.
