It seems from my last question, http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070410105337AABLasl&r=w
That most people don't mind someone telling them about their religion if the evangelical doesn't say anything about your faith being wrong.
Most people might even be interested in reading a little bit about Animism (see my prev. question) as long as I didn't try to convert them. They might even take a little from it and learn something, because a lot of people don't know much about it.
How does this compare to Christian evangelicals? I mean, people have heard about Christianity before.
Also, isn't the purpose of the Christian evangelicals to convert, not just to share stories?
What are everyone's thoughts on this?

Honestly, if a Christian came up to me and shared with me their story and how their religion has helped their life and left it at that, I personally would be really happy for them.

Our commands are just to go and make disciples of all nations telling them the good news-
He loves you, died for you and lives again.

It is not the Christians job to convert. We are only to share and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God will "convert" or reveal Himself in a very real way to those who accept Him. However, many Evangelicals get this mixed up in their zeal to have the Gospel heard. They mean well, but in their approach can be offensive, overbearing, and down right annoying. But don't let the few experiences you have with overbearing Evangelicals cause you to reject the Gospel altogether. The fact of the matter is, many of the truths in the bible are hard to accept because they are so convicting but that's the point, without conviction there is no conversion. In other words, if you are unaware of how far from Holiness/Pure Righteousness you fall, which is what is required to live forever in heaven with God, then you'll never whole heartily repent of your sins (all have sinned, there is not one person on the face of this earth who hasn't) and ask God to save you from eternal death (hell) through the the redemptive work and payment made by Jesus Christ. No amount of doing good will save you only Christ can! Anything we do good after wards will far exceed the good works we've done before and will be noted, not accepted as payment for sin, by God.

People yearn to "Belong" or be accepted as part of the whole. BUT (BIG BUT) in talking about Christianity, they understand that they CAN'T BELONG unless they Accept Christ which means acknowledging their Sins & Accepting Christs' work & Believing He can save them. It also means giving Christ Control over Ur life which is often too BIG a Price for Eternal Life. No, the purpose of Every Christian is simply to tell the "Good News", not try to make the Horse Drink!!!!! That is WRONG!!!!!! It is the Holy Spirits work to open the Eyes (Heart) & "Convince" the person of their Lost state & need of Salvation!!! John

You're nitpicking, and creating a false situation to draw support for an opinion. You could run for Congress!
I've met some rather non-intrusive Christian prosyletizers, and some very in-your-face ones. Same goes for members of lots of other religions, actually. The purpose of sharing stories might just be their way of "planting the seed."
At any rate, it appears you're trying to "catch" Christians at something here. You should just get to the point.

It is not our "mission" so to speak, to "convert" anyone to Christianity. We like to share our faith with others and invite them to a service, but in the end, it's everyone's personal choice.....
OF course, there are always "pushy" people, but that's in every religion and in every group.
I feel that there should be a common ground that we can all agree to share our thoughts, theories and faiths without criticism, as long as we aren't pushy in how we deliver it. No one wants to hear that they are wrong in their beliefs....
I am a Christian, but I can't possibly sit here and say that out of all the religions out there, that there isn't one bit of truth to any of them. That would be foolish in my opinion.
It's all about the delivery of the message.

What is the difference between telling someone about your faith and trying to convert them? I can think of a few; when they say you are wrong and they are right or that theirs is the only way.

My Wife and I are Jehovah's Witnesses and we would listen to you explain what you believe. There's nothing wrong with that. Jesus would listen and then reason with you from the scriptures. Do you really think rocks have souls? Or was this just your example? 2 Tim 3:16Â All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17Â that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.
The Bible is our foundation. Like a loving letter from a Father to his children. Notice all Scripture is inspired of God, for setting things straight, for reproving. We believe in the Bible as it truly is as the Word of God. Jesus believed in the Bible. We should to.

Religion is all about spreading the word, so I guess I agree with you somewhat. I really don't know what kind of answers you want by asking this question.
Atheism has no foundation whatsoever

The simple truth is that there is a great difference between 'show me' and 'make me'.
I'm happy to hear what you have to say if I don't feel like I'm being played for a sucker and coerced into something I don't want.
Believe me, if I want to know, I'll ask.
If I don't, I wont waste either of our time.

If my religion didn't mean much and if the decision made didn't depend upon much, then I might go along with your thinking.
But in my faith, if you miss Jesus, you've missed it all. There is no second chance. My religion is not wishy washy. My religion says there is only One True God and there is no other god. My religion says God is the Creator of everything. My God says He is the beginning and the end. My God says He is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent and there is none like Him. He is God and there is no other. My God makes no room for your god. My God doesn't tolerate other gods or other religions or other beliefs or cults or whatever you want to call your religion. My God doesn't allow for your thinking.
