I have cronic headaches daily which require me to take pain relievers every day. (I have been to the doctors...they still dont know why I get these yet.) I do not exceed the daily dosage limit and I switch from Excedrin (which I take the most), Advil, IB Profin, and Tylenol Extra Strength. I"m sure there is some damage being done to my body, but would like more info. I want some HELPFUL advice and info from people who know what there talking about. Thanks for your help.

You can have several problems from taking lots of OTC pain meds. Tylenol is very hard on your liver if taken every day and a person taking high doses should never drink alcohol. If you need to take Tylenol every day then do a search on NAC (n-acetyl-cysteine) which is the antidote for tylenol toxicity. This amino acid is available at most health food stores. Take one capsule along with a vitamin C each time you take Tylenol and you will greatly reduce the damage potential to your liver.

Ibuprofen is hard on your kidneys and if you take it every day for long periods of time then you need to have kidney function monitored by your Dr (easy urine test). NBA basketball player Alonzo Mourning is an example of someone who damaged his kidneys from taking high doses of ibuprofen. Ibuprofen can also raise your blood pressure over time. VP Cheney was recently hospitalized for high BP due to ibuprofen intake.

Rebound headaches are also a problem with chronic pain reliever ingestion. Your body gets used to the pain relievers and them exiting your body triggers another headache.

I'd suggest you search for the cause and correct treatment for your headaches. You did not say if these were migraines or just chronic headaches. I'd try my family physician, followed by either a neurologist or chiropractor depending on what your physician tells you and then see what each Dr has to say about treating the headaches. Try to limit your OTC pain meds intake. I know this can be very hard so try and find out the cause for your headaches. good luck

The biggest thing you need to worry about is liver damage from prolonged use of acetaminophen, particularly if you end up exceeding the dose by taking Excedrin and Tylenol at the same time. Prolonged use of Advil and IB Profin can cause bleeding in the stomach and intestines, but generally this doesn't occur if you stay within recommended dosage. Excedrin contains aspirin, which for some people, causes headaches as a side effect, so you may be better off sticking with Tylenol and finding some other source of caffeine.

It would be helpful to narrow identify the type of headaches you are experiencing. You may be able to treat the cause instead of the symptoms.

If you want a serious opinion I would suggest that you locate a real doctor and not only talk to him about your problem but get a complete check up....Get an eye exam as well....Sometimes a headache especially in the frontal region might indicate eye strain..

Pain is natures way of saying...Hey!!!There's something wrong!

Also your doctor can observe what your system does with the medications.......If I take a med doesn't mean that you can ....

Also do your own research into long term affects of whatever med you are taking....And evaluate the data you get on line..

I had chronic headaches as well and Dr's had no clue what it was from (they would just send me home with an Rx for painkillers). I started seeing a chiropractor.. after just one adjustment the headaches were gone. Give it a try because ur right aspirin does do damage to ur body in fact there are over 1,000 deaths from aspirin related complications each year.

Are Orthodox jews or other jews forbidden from taking pain killers during birth? God said in Genesis that woman would suffer during childbirth due to Eves sin.Does that then mean that women can't take pain control during giving birth because then they would be disobeying Gods plan/will for them to experience pain in birth? Does your religion forbid you from taking paincontrol her or does it allow it? If it allows it,why, considering these verses?

I read in the newspaper that you can actually cause yourself to get MORE headaches by using painkillers too often.
