I would recommend it for extremely overweight people, (as in 400+ pounds). For people who have no other hope in losing weight and will die if they don't. That's what the surgery was meant for.

Over the past few years gastric bypasses have become incredibly more common. Thanks to more advanced technology, the procedure can be done quicker, safer and with smaller scares. But, don't let the frequency or advances fool you, stomach stapling is still an incredibly invasive procedure and should not be considered lightly. It is by no means a walk in the park for for your body.

With that being said, it is an alternative for morbidly obese people. Not simply fat people, but rather people where even walking is a problem. The procedure is meant for people whose weight effects their health, not for people who want to loose 50 or 100 lbs. The ease and the frequency these procedures are done has given this the illusion of being an easy way to loose weight and many people, mainly the wealthy (because they can afford it without insurance), see it as such -- just a bad idea all the way around. Again, it should only be considered after you have exhausted all other options.

This is such a personal decision and so much needs to be taken into consideration. I know of people who have had great success with the surgery, and others who have had more problems both mentally and physically after the procedure.

Anyone with a weight problem and who can afford the surgery, might look at stomach stapling as an option but in depth discussions with family, health experts, medical personnel, etc is crucial before any decision can be made and nothing that can be made in haste.

From my understanding the rubber band surgery option is certainly an alternative and less invasive to the body but still alot to take into consideration.

Definitely recommend if you need to lose more than 100lbs. I had it done when I was 14 years old. At the time I was the youngest person it had been preformed on. Now I understand there is counseling that you get to go along with your new body image. That is important because there is a sudden, dramatic transformation. This was the best decision I ever made.

That depends on your situation. i'd recomend talking with your regular M.D., and not the one who'd be performing the operation in the beginning! Personally I'd run the other way! it's been too many adverse effects from these type operations! If you decide to go ahead with it, I wish you the best of luck! Just have a nice long realistic look and know what to expect in the long run.... God Bless you!

Although I am not overweight, as I take after my mom's side physically but my Dad and his family are overweight. My father has considered it and felt threatened by the many risks. However, my Uncle had the procedure done and looks great. I guess everyone is different and it is only a choice you can make. Good luck!

It Depends, I think if you are SO over weight you should go for it but if you can just simply get better eating habits that's what i recommend.
