so I currently have shoulder length hair and am thinking of getting layers in my hair but I have really thick hair and am worried that it will puff out, also my hair is wavy so I have really bad issues with puffy hair, so any ideas

I have thick hair too, like REALLY thick hair, and I just cut it shoulder lank in a raggy kind of look, It was really poofy when I first cut it but it thankfully deflated a bit the next day. Go for something fun and original, we thick-hair people can do anything! Kind of like my avatar but a little longer

Yeah, you definitely don't want to make the layers too short, or you will end up with the dreaded Triangle Head- when your hair puffs out so much on the sides that your head starts to look like a triangle. When you go to the salon, tell your stylist you want long layers- the shortest one should only be about 3 inches shorter than the longest layer on your head. This will keep your hair long enough where it still won't poof out, but it will also get rid of some of the bulk. Thick hair can look sort of huge if you let it grow all one length. Layers definitely reduce some of the thickness and create some movement so it's not boring. Also, you should maximize the natural waviness of your hair by running a texturizing balm or pomade through it. It will create some cool wavy pieces and add some definition to the natural curl of your hair without making it frizzy.

I have really thick/wavy hair too. I've had my hair in all kinds of styles. My best suggestion to you, since you already have shoulder length, is to get layers, maybe 2-3. To keep it from puffing out, use bed bed manipulator when your hair is wet. Dry it using a round brush, then flat iron it. This will weigh it down a bit, make it straight and shiny.

Your hair sounds really nice..are you sure you want layers..I wouldnt do it. I wouldnt want to look like everyone else with all these layers in their hair..I think it looks like a kid cut their hair..sorry.I would condition it with some Biolage daily leave-in tonic and let it flow gurl! Poeple pay money for hair like yours..so please be grateful you have such nice thick wavy hair wow sounds nice!

don't get a large number of layers in case you hair is thick and curly. it is going to poof out much extra!!! attempt staying with a shoulder length decrease. perspective it and in case you want layers, get lengthy layers so its not loopy.
