I have seven mourning doves that come to my bird feeding station, they eat the same as the other birds, sunflower seeds and mixed wild bird seeds.

We feed ours cracked corn, and they would rather eat on the ground. They will get in a big feeder, but they prefer eating from the ground. You can buy the mixed feed, but you will find that some of it, they will just not eat, and neither will any of the other birds, so there is a lot of waste. We live in the country and have a lot of doves. Here in Ohio, they have a hunting season for doves, and there is a man close to us, who hunts them. I think he killed my favorite dove. She came to my deck every morning to be fed, but sadly she stopped coming. I had her named after my late Mother.

They like small bird seed - the kind that Finches like. They eat last, after all the other birds do. And, they usually ust wait on the ground for the left overs. They love cooked rice - but not UNCOOKED. They even like bread, if you have extra from the loaf, without mold, They have pretty songs in the very early morning. coo coo before it's even light out.

If they've been there for 7 years, sounds like they know where the food is. You can purchase some wild bird seed, to toss out there, if you want to contribute.

P.S. It's ''mourning'' doves.

Mourning doves eat seed just like other wild birds. I have them all the time at my bird feeders and I don't put out anything special for them.

A regular birdseed mix should do the trick. If you put it in a feeder, make sure the sides are big enough for them to stand on. Otherwise put it on the ground or a feeding platform.
