What my purpose in life is:
I choose my own purpose. It's a wonderful feeling. If I meet someone who needs help, I'll help them for them, not for a God, and it feels wonderful to have that human contact. The same with animals.
How to be moral:
It's common sense- treat others the way you'd like to be treated. It's a universal concept that has existed longer than any religion today.
How to be a good wife, sister, friend, etc:
I care about these people because I love them. I do what makes them happy, and what will help them grow if I feel the need to mentor.
I'm not an Atheist but I don't believe in God either, and I certainly make my own rules reguarding my life. I think I do a pretty good job.
My question is, why do so many people think only a God can do this for you? They act like Atheists are immoral, but that's a horrible predjudice. I hope I helped you understand their (and mine) point of view a little better.

The people who are really scary are the ones who need a fear of hell to keep them in line.

God created you and everything in this World. You need to read and try to understand the importance of living a Christian life, not just anyway you choose. And no, I don't think you helped anyone here as a great majority of people know people like you, but don't necessarily believe in your ways. Good luck and God Bless YOU.

you couldn't be more right. I did the same for my life and i have never been happier. When i was a christian i thought i was a bad person, i did not care about loving fellow humans for human sake, i did not allow myself to feel true compassion for people, it was always what i did because god wanted me to do it or because it made me a good christian or a good person in god's eyes. In my mind, i was a good person because god thought i was good not because i thought i was good (as i said i thought i was a bad person at heart)
Turns out i couldn't be more wrong. Left to my own devices i am a much much much better person to myself and to society. I am more in touch with my humanity and compassion for myself and others. I am free to be me and i have never felt better

One can find purpose and morals without believing in God, but that is not the point. This is often the point to religion, but not spirituality or God.

You found a philosophy and code that gets you where you need to go. Congrats.
I hope you will feel likewise that I have found a way for myself as well. Mine just happens to have a concept of God involved.
If you seek "God", or you seek "Good", either way is fine with me.

I don't think they really think through the belief. They are taught "morals come from god" ergo, if they don't have god, they must not have morals.
If they took a moment and thought thru that, they would see how silly it is. Or if they took a different moment and bothered to talk with an atheist, they would come to that conclusion about their morality as well.

I am beginning to think this falls on many deaf ears. It is not your failure. It is sad to see the world being held back by something people so many years ago made up to try to understand the universe around them.

Your universal concept is the Golden Rule which comes right out of the Holy Bible straight from God.
You are serving your god which is man. Basically we have only two religions - God and man. We choose to serve God or we choose to serve man. Choosing ourselves has been the religion of many failed nations.
