Your friend needs to get some Frontline or Advantage and use it monthly. It's a bit expensive but it's the only thing that really works. It's also important to wash the dog's bedding and vacuum the carpets and any upholstery where the dog lies.

That is because it only kills the fleas on the dog at the time of the bath. There are hundreds of more of the little suckers waiting for the dog to dry. Frontline (from your vet) is an excellent flea preventative. In the summer, I also use Sentinal, which is a heartworm preventative that also sterilizes flea eggs. It is only available by prescription and pretty costly, but it works. I have not found a product that can be purchased at a regular store that works. Also, if the house has a bad flea problem. I would bomb the house and spend the night at a friend's place after I dipped my dog. Hope that helped. Good luck.

There is a product called Capstar for fleas. It will kill all the fleas on your dogs body in minutes. Some pet stores carry this, otherwise you can get if from a vet. After that use frontline every month. Make sure to flea dust/spray/bomb your entire house! If the dog has fleas, the house does too. Also fleas can sometimes cause tapeworms, so you might want to think about picking up some tapworm tabs as well.

A flea bath isn't going to help - she has to treat the whole house.
When confronted with flea shampoo, the fleas jump (they jump far) and get into carpeting, baseboards etc. If the dog is treated and they don't want to bite the dog, they'll go for humans.
Before it gets out of control have your friend buy a good home flea sprayer. She should treat the house and bathe the dog again on the same day.
It may have to be repeated again in 1 1/2 to 2 weeks as the fleas will have layed eggs in carpeting and they will hatch.
Get your friend to call her vet's office for their recommendation on what product they would suggest she uses. Also, depending on the age of the dog it could be lethal to use flea shampoo/powders/collars so her vet will be able to give her the correct answers for her particular dog.

Use frontline or another flea control that will get rid of the fleas on the dog. If the fleas cant live on the dog, they cant live. The rest of the fleas in the house will start to die off. Get a bug bomb wash linens vacuum etc..

NO NO NO NO, Flea collars dont work, nor do flea baths or flea powder......the dog needs a drop on liquid, Advantage has been taken off the shelves in many vet clinics...Frontline or Stronghold, every 4 to 6 weeks, also to stop recontamination, if the dog is in the house, your friend need to spray everywhere the dog has been, with INDOREX, hoover every 2nd day, throw hoover bag away after every hoovering, needs to do this for up to 2 weeks.. keep the dog protected year round.

There is a pill that my vet uses it gets rid of fleas quickly. It is called Capstar. I looked up Capstar and pasted the text below. It is only the quick first step. You've got to really clean the carpets, dog beds and follow up with another flea treatment to kill any future fleas.
My dog has never had fleas so I've never had to use the Capstar but he uses monthly pill called Sentinel. It prevents heartworms, intestinal worms and flea control. Plus if your dog gets any of the above they pay for the treatments.
Capstar:
A flea treatment, flea control pill given orally, capstar is designed to start working within 30 minutes to completely eliminate all the adult fleas on your dog within four hours. Capstar flea killer works great to kill flea infestation on your pet quickly, however, capstar flea treatment effects last only 24 hours, so capstar is not meant to serve as preventative flea control product against new fleas after the 24 hour period. Consequently, capstar works best as a compliment to other flea control prevention products such as program, a flea growth inhibitor product also from Novartis. In other words, capstar is a great way to get rid of existing fleas while another follow up product like program, frontline or advantage will help prevent them from reoccurring again later. According to Novartis, capstar meds can be given to dogs, cats, puppies & kittens who are at least 2 pounds and over 4 weeks of age.

Flea baths are not helpful, as you've discovered.
You need a spray or spot-on from a vet - Frontline, Advantage or Revolution/Stronghold. Any of these will kill all fleas within 24 hours, and used every 4-6 weeks will keep them off your pet. You may need to use a housespray from a vets too.
Flea collars, powders, shampoos, baths - anything from petshops in fact - 99% are useless money-spinning rubbish!

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

I would highly suggest another bath, but if that doesn't work, see the vet. Once the fleas are gone, have the dog wear a flea collar.
