Does the dad 'force' the boy to be Muslim? What if the boy desires to be Buddhist like mother? Even more farfetched...a Christian or a Wiccan? What does a Muslim dad do? Sine it's my understanding all kids born unto a marriage with a Muslim male and a female of a different (presuming lesser) belief, must be raised in Islam "muslim"?

N'est-ce pas?

I do not believe Muslim men are allowed to marry Budist, Hindus or Atheist. They can only marry people of the book the Jews and Christians. I believe in most cases where a Muslim man marries a non-Muslim women if he practices the religion and the child is taught at an early age about Islam then the child will most likely be a Muslim but if the father does not practice the faith then the children end up choosing what ever they want to practice.

Well, In Islam, a Muslim man can marry any woman as long as she is Muslim, Jewish or Christian. He cannot ever under any circumstances marry a Buddist or Wiccan or any other type. The 3 mentioned religions are the only one he can marry from. If they were to have children, the children must take on the religion of the father. A Muslim woman, is only allowed to marry a Muslim man. No Christian nor Jew. Let alone a Buddist or any other type.

Most religions attempt to force kids into the religion. Some do it through dictates that a father *must* raise the child in the same religion, others try to guilt the parents to indoctrinating the kid, and others create a social environment where the kid has no choice except be indoctrinated into the religion. All religions recognize the importance of indoctrination as a tool for gaining converts. This is the prime way they perpetuate their superstitious beliefs.

The friction this causes in families and harm to the child are yet more reasons why religious superstition is harmful to society.

In such INTER RELIGION or INTER CASTE marriages the offspring is generally take the religion of the father. But the child when grows can choose the religions of father or mother which ever he wishes. If there is any pre-condition by any one of the life partners they can ask make the child to take that religion.

But Muslims force the mother and child to take Islam as their religion.-

Well, Muslims are supposed to marry other Muslims, Jews and Christians.
No, it's not that we believe that the other beliefs are lesser, but you believe that you have the "right" faith so wouldn't you want your children to believe in the same "right" faith?
Although I have heard of one Muslim refuting this.
Her name is Irshad Manji and on her website she has a Muslim scholar explaining that it is alright (for women and men) to marry outside of the Muslim, Jewish and Christian faith.

Technically, a DEVOTE Muslim is not suppose to marry someone who isn't MUSLIM.

But that only applies to the Devote.

I know a so-so Muslim who doesn't practise, dosn't pray, doesn't cover his head who is married to a Mexican Catholic. He gave his Son an Islamic name, but that's about it.

As much as I observe: Muslim men have absolute power in their family. I believe he will force everyone in his house to be Muslim. The men are also old-fashion, I doubt they will marry any outsider in the site of belief.

The parents decide how they are going to raise their children, including what religion they will follow. when the child is old enough he or she can decide what they want to continue to believe.
