Why do you consider this bad manners? If you do not like the food, why eat it to please somebody else? No point making yourself sick just because the food is in front of you. There is no obligation to eat everything on your plate, not matter who has prepared the meal.
And quite simply, we do not all enjoy eating the same foods and so that expectation needs to be removed when you are the host/hostess of the gathering. I would rather know my guests will enjoy their food as opposed to looking at their plate and wondering how they will "survive' the meal.

No I think you have to do this slowly and between eating other parts of salad.
Have you tried dried tomatoes they are really nice.
Food is largely psycological on what we like and do not like, I ate boiled eggs with chick inside, it sounds horrible but if you ignore what your emotions are staying you eat it down fine. you may be able to do the same thing with tomatoes, just try to forget what you are eating and think of the people you are eating with. Good luck. - I would not recommend you try the eggs yet though!

pushing them discretely to the side of your plate is polite.
throwing them on the floor while screaming "Ugh! I'm gonna hurl! I HATE tomtatoes!" would be considered a less than lady-like option.

No, not at all! My daughter's been doing that for YEARS..she, too, loves tomato-based dishes & sauces, but raw tomatoes gross her out.

No, not at all. I do the same thing when someone puts black olives in a salad that I am going to eat

No!! People should understand that everyone has different tastes!! I'm not going to eat something that I totally can't stand!! It would be much ruder to sit there making faces while you eat!! Then they would take offense because they think you hate their cooking!!

If it's at a restaurant, eat whatever you want, however you like. If it's a home cooked meal, I'd try to eat them, but maybe hide them under your napkin.
I think it's rude for people to expect you to eat food you don't like.

If you push them gently aside without making hue and cry about how you hate them and all, then its okay. Discretion is the key.

Whatever makes you think that is rude? It is normally done by discerning gourmets the world over.
