Its called the 'pick and choose' philosophy. You pick and choose the parts of the Bible that you personally don't have to sacrifice for. Better to point a finger at others, than see one's own self-serving attitudes.
I agree with you--- If one accepts that life is sacred, then ALL life is sacred-- ALL souls a spark of the Supreme.

I don't believe that "life" is sacred.
I believe that every man has a right to it up to the point where their actions give up their right to it. Strapping explosives on your body and blowing up a school bus would be on such act. That person should die as well as those that helped him do it.
Life isn't sacred, it is the responsible act of living it that is sacred.
That does not mean that I am for slaughter and wars in general either.
I don't think than any one answer can be universally applied to every situation.
I support our war against islamic fascism, and the battle for iraq in that war. But I do not give a blanket pass for any war under any circumstance.
I oppose universal health care because I believe that the constitution provides every citizen with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and does not provide the federal government the right to universally tax citizens for the benefit of some of those citizens.
I support the death penalty...conditionally. I believe that there have been many situations IN THE PAST where innocent people have died. In this day of genetic testing, I believe that it is possible to ensure that someone found guilty of a capital crime can and should be deprived of their life by the government if there is indisputable genetic proof that they are guilty.
I know that your question makes you sound like a radical liberal, but I somehow can't believe it to be true. I have strong convictions on many topics that would probably not agree with yours. I would hope both of us arrived at our conclusions through careful thought and reason.
Thus, having disagreeing beliefs does not mean that either you or I should be labeled as something we are not.
I love life and believe that all have a right to it...including unborn children. I see a difference between an unborn child and a woman that drowns her children. I am pretty sure you see a difference there as well.
I don't even know what you mean by "fundies". Honestly I don't so it doesn't really offend me, but I can surmise you intended it in a derogatory way.
If you are truly a lover of life and freedom, don't you think it is time that you refrain from detracting from your beliefs by stooping to name calling?
I do respect your beliefs, but that respect is diminished by the sophmoric name calling.

Eating meat - Simple, The Bible says that God gave us dominion over the animals to use as food.
Accepting unprovoked wars - No one accepts anything. We either feel it was provoked or it was not provoked. Whether we agree with the war in Iraq or not, we have men and women fighting and dying and at this point (whether we made a mistake or not) the war needs to be won or else it will only be worse in the future.
Opposing Universal Health Care -
(1) We as a country have no long term way to pay for it other than raising taxes on the middle class to a level that will kill our economy.
(2) Just like social security & welfare, the government will abuse it and screw it up.
(3) If you look at health care in other countries it usually stinks!
(4) It will only give the millions of free loaders in this country another reason to not work.
(5) The government already controls most of our lives, and abuses every power we give them - now add health care to it and what does it mean? COMPLETE CONTROL OF CITIZENS!
Death penalty - There are many Democrats who support the death penalty as well as many Republicans who do not support it, so your are far from correct on your statement to begin with.
I personally hold all life as sacred, but I do believe that we have to laws and rules and stick to them or else we cannot exist. If there is no punishment for murder or rape or horrible crimes than murder and rape will run rampent.
The difference between a criminal and an unborn child is that a child is absolutely innocent! 99% of the time (other than rape) its mother made a choice (an accident is still a choice to have sex knowing that getting pregnant is a possibility) to bring it into the world without its consent, without its knowing! The difference between an animal and a child is just that! We should not abuse our use of animals, or be cruel to animals but it is our God given right to use them as food and we would not exist today otherwise.
I find it amazing that most liberals hold the life of an innocent animal or a criminal who has raped or murdered much higher than that of an innocent child who has commited no crimes and is part of our own species!

Who is the fundies now, I think you are, Because you fail to see that God gave us Animals for meat, & The death Penalty only applies to someone that has taken another life in the process of a crime, So now are you protectiing a murderer, As far as unprovoked war, Who hit the Twin towers in the USA, Not Americans, So do you think we are in a unprovoke war, I think Not, we were attack first, & the world kept silence, & now since we have gone after the terroists, the world now cries wolf. Sorry, You are the fundies, Not Us Christians.

I can't speak for "fundies" as you call them. I am a Catholic and believe in the sanctity of life from conception until natural death.
This is what the Church has always taught, but it is not a black and white issue and there is a difference between deliberate murder and the killing of another. A quick example: if a man breaks into your house and threatens to kill your whole family, you are justified in trying to stop him, even if you have to kill him. It is a necessary act that spares innocent blood.
And the sacredness of human life does not apply to animals, although we are certainly supposed to be good stewards of the earth. Animals are not given immortal souls so they do not share the exalted place of man.

I believe that unprovoked wars are wrong, opposing health care is silly and I am against death penalty (in fact in my country it does not exist), but I am also against abortion (except in extreme cases such as rape or danger to the mother). I can understand women who take this terrible decision, I know they suffer, but abortion cannot be taken lightly.
OK shame on me, I eat meat.;)
To be against abortion is fundamentalism?

Perhaps some life is more sacred than others? Meat comes from animals, which God GAVE to us for our use. You think terrorists DIDN'T provoke the war? How blind can you be? And the theft of money out of one persons pocket, no matter what the excuse, is STILL theft. And the death penalty is for the guilty, not for innocent children who never harmed anyone. Amazing that you cannot see that.
Blind guides! Blind FOOLS! Indeed!
