God created the Souls in the beginning, and each Soul is living and moving thru many different Lives in order to reach the heightened awareness of an enlightened mind.
In other words, each Soul continues to reincarnate back here on earth (aka: the "firey pits of hell"), until that Soul -- thru the knowledge, wisdom, and experience it has gained -- "gets it right" (for a lack of a better phrase).
Any one soul has the ability to "get it right" within one lifetime, but when we are born into this life as an infant, we tend to lose the memories of our past lives, and it is up to us to find that knowledge again.
Also, we are limited by the family lives we live, for each experience of Life is different, creating different paths to find that enlightened state of mind.
The path to that state is called "The Way"

At the heart of your question is whether or not you believe that YOU are an eternal spirit or not.
This has nothing to do with religion from my viewpoint by the way.
If you do believe that you are an eternal spirit, it is not such a large leap for you to consider that possibly you sprang from the universal potential that some call God. I don't, but some do.
If you don't believe this, then no answer given by anyone will enlighten you.
I am speaking outside the context of traditional judeo/christian concepts of God.
If you can clarify your position in this regard, then I think your own truth will draw you to understand how you are part and parcel of everything you may consider to be attributes of the supreme being or entity.

There are three things that make God "God". He knows everything, he can do everything, and he is everywhere.
He can from any moment in time look down through every possible history, and every decision that could be made, and determine what is they best thing for him to do at that moment to reach is ultimate goal.
So he is able, even before you are conceived (let alone born) look down all the possible histories for you life and know them. He can then guide circumstances so that "you" will come to be right where and when he needs you.
God always makes an assumption that every person is going to be exactly what he knows they are capable of and designed to do. We (and he) know that not all of them do. So God (as Paul says in Romans 8) has a "good" and an "acceptable" and a "perfect" will for each person.
But it is the idea that, even before you are born, God cares enough to look down your future, find the best path for you, design you capable to living it, and then offer to guide you each step of the way. Even before you are born, he knows you.

Unborn children have souls, even though marred by original sin. David tells us, "Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me" (Ps. 51:5, NIV). Since sinfulness is a spiritual rather than a physical condition, David must have had a spiritual nature from the time of conception.
The same is shown in James 2:26, which tells us that "the body without the spirit is dead": The soul is the life-principle of the human body. Since from the time of conception the child’s body is alive (as shown by the fact it is growing), the child’s body must already have its spirit.

Science tell us that human life begins at the time of conception. From the moment fertilization takes place, the child's genetic makeup is already complete. Its gender has already been determined, along with its height and hair, eye and skin color. The only thing the embryo needs to become a fully-functioning being is the time to grow and develop.
More importantly, God reveals to us in His Word that not only does life begin at conception, but He knows who we are even before then (Jeremiah 1:5). King David said this about God's role in our conception: "For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb....Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them" (Psalm 139:13, 16).

Some people believe you have a soul at the moment of conception, others later in the pregnancy, others at the moment of birth.

We all before this life lived with our Father In Heaven as brothers and sisters. Have you feel like you know a person but you never see this person before, and you wonder why? This is because we knew each other before this life.
Before this life, Did we live with our Heavenly Father?
JEREMIAH 1:5
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
ECCLESIASTES
12:7
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
ZECHARIAH
12:1
The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him

God is our creator- and He chose to create us long before the creation of this world, let only long before we were conceived and born. An unborn child does have a soul, from the moment of conception.
Love this song=
I HAVE A FATHER, HE FORMED MY HEART
BEFORE EVEN TIME BEGAN, MY LIFE WAS IN HIS HAND.
HE KNOWS MY NAME, HE KNOWS MY EVERY THOUGHT, HE SEES EACH TEAR THAT FALLS, AND HEARS ME WHEN I CALL.

God also knows the number of hairs on your head. Trust me...God knows what he is doing. That is the reason he is God and not us...He knows who you will marry and how many kids you will have before you are born as well. Eveything is planned way ahead of time...
