I posted a question yesterday about "god". One of the answerers attacked me for not using capital "g' when writting about god, and he was very rude. I picked up the matter with him and tried to sort it out privately. I went to an extent of offering a public apology if he can subtantiate his discomfort. In return he send me a rude email. Still I referred him to my past postings where I publicly apologise to other members for saying what they found offensive. I'm not in a position to disclose his name, other than to say he is a christian, and/or the exact contents of his emails.

My question is - is there anything wrong with me or anybody else not using capital "g" when writing god?

Just another reason to be self-righteous. They believe there is only the one true GOD, so they demand that you give HIM respect. Yet they are not willing to respect you, or see that GOD would probably rather be called by HIS name, instead of a title anyway.

Personally I never use a capital letter for the word god. There is no such so it does not become a name of anything.

I anger many because I am not a believer in any religion. I honestly think they cause more harm than they ever do good.

All religions are creations of man as a means of controling man. As an animal that lives in groups for survival it has to have rules. Religion served this purpos for a very long time.
Now that so many are educated civil law does a better and more fare job.

I don't think it would matter one bit to God himself. I'm certain he's happy you're asking questions about him. Making his children think.

God does not like when his children are rude. I make that mistake all the time. I get snappy. Each individual, even the ones we do not like - even the ones who DO NOT BELIEVE - are made in the image and likeness of God.

When we are rude to one another we are rude to God.

We can't please everyone. That's the downfall of the whole "politically correct" issue. People do not agree. Ever. We might have a majority. But the minority will still be insulted. You can't please them all.

So use a small g if it suits you. Many here will be pleased. Many will not. Then some of us will have to apologize for our rude brothers and sisters.

According to standard English grammar textbooks, God is spelled with a capital G.

No. There is nothing wrong with writing god as god unless you are christian, then you have to write god as God.

If you were muslim you'd have to wash your hands before writing his name.

If you were jewish you would feel it inappropriate and even sacrilegious to write every letter of God's name.

So, you see, everyone can't be pleased. They need to get a life.

If I were you I wouldn't have apologized at all. You've already been way to kind.

No I dont think grammer is that serious an issue. God is usually capitalized as if it is a name, but his name is not God he is a god we refer to as God. Never heard of grammer being this serious of an issue anyway.

one needs to give some respect when he/she is writing about the God, but if you didnt do it, we can still relate to it that it is God you are talking about.....The one who has sent you that reply must be a religious fool. Dont think over it now..most of the people here(as I have experienced) have lots of time to waste on making such funny comments on somebody.
God bless you.

when using the word 'god' in reference to the deity of the Jews and Christians, it is usually used as a 'personal' name, it should be capitalized... but to use it in a polytheistic sense, "the gods"... it represents a collection of beings... not a personal name.

like in... "i have a dog named Dog"...

forget the religious aspect.
proper usage: if you are referring to god in the abstract (as a concept), then small "g". If you are referring to God as an individual entity, then capital "G".
Anything else is personal bias.

It doesn't bother me. I use a capital G, you use a little g...no big deal. We can still get along.

BTW, I think the way you posted this was very respectful.
