was it god who said the foolish look for signs, or was it the guy who wrote the bible so we wouldn't question things?

The most basic proof of God’s existence is simply what He has made. “For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that [unbelievers] are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). “The heavens declare the glory of God / And the firmament sheweth His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1).

If I found a wristwatch in the middle of a field, I would not assume that it just “appeared” out of nowhere or that it had always existed. Based on the watch’s design, I would assume it had a designer. But I see far greater design and precision in the world around us. Our measurement of time is not based on wristwatches, but on God’s handiwork—the regular rotation of the earth (and the radioactive properties of the cesium-133 atom). The universe displays great design, and this argues for a Great Designer.

If I found an encoded message, I would seek out a cryptographer to help break the code. My assumption would be that there is an intelligent sender of the message, someone who created the code. How complex is the DNA “code” that we carry in every cell of our bodies? Does not the complexity and purpose of DNA argue for an Intelligent Writer of the code?

Not only has God made an intricate and finely tuned physical world, He has also instilled a sense of eternity in the heart of every person (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Mankind has an innate perception that there is more to life than meets the eye, that there is an existence higher than this earthly routine. Our sense of eternity manifests itself in at least two ways: law-making and worship.
Every civilization throughout history has valued certain moral laws, which are surprisingly similar from culture to culture. For example, the ideal of love is universally esteemed, while the act of lying is universally condemned. This common morality—this global understanding of right and wrong—points to a Supreme Moral Being who gave us such scruples.

In the same way, people all over the world, regardless of culture, have always cultivated a system of worship. The object of worship may vary, but the sense of a “higher power” is an undeniable part of being human. Our propensity to worship accords with the fact that God created us “in His own image” (Genesis 1:27).

God has also revealed Himself to us through His Word, the Bible. Throughout scripture, the existence of God is treated as a self-evident fact (Genesis 1:1; Exodus 3:14). When Benjamin Franklin wrote his Autobiography, he did not waste time trying to prove his own existence. Likewise, God does not spend much time proving His existence in His book. The life-changing nature of the Bible, its integrity, and the miracles which accompanied its writing should be enough to warrant a closer look.

The third way in which God revealed Himself is through His Son, Jesus Christ (John 14:6-11). “In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:1, 14). In Jesus Christ “dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9).

Think about it this way - when you use the word God, are you starting with a picture already? Old man in the sky? A lord sitting on a throne somewhere, looking down on the Earth? Throw all that away. The Bible doesn't describe God very much at all.

So, what is God? Start with the answer "I don't know" and be ok with not knowing.

Then say to yourself, "God, if you are there, show me the Way." Don't expect an immediate transformation, just exist with that mindset. Something will happen.

If from your home, where you live, you can see the sky, tonite try to watch the sky... Look at the zillions of stars that carpet the firmament from left to right, in every direction, and start realizing that you can only see an insignificant fraction of what can actually be seen with the help of a powerful telescope...

Then look at yourself and try to imagine the complexity of you body. If you have a microscope just look at one of your hairs.

And finally, imagine the wonders of our Earth and of our mother Nature, which we are trying to destroy...

And finally wonder. Is is possible that all these marvels are the result of a mere fortuity, or are actually the consequence of a supreme will which we call God.

But when you think of God, do not think of an old white bearded man sitting in a white throne dictating orders here and there.

Just think of God as a source of inextinguished energy with an overwhelming power that has been able to create everything you can see, feel or touch.

If after that you need more convincing, start singing that beautiful song by the Beatles "Imagine..."

Just look at yourselves. The veins and the skin, every single molecule, the complexity of life itself. Even Einstein said that a rock was too complex to have risen without intellegent design.

How more complex and valuable are you than a rock!!!

Maybe the hidden reason you even posted this question is because Jesus is poking at your heart to have faith in him.

God wants you back, and I hope that you find your way back soon.

I believe in God(dess). If you don't, that is your perogative. I don't feel a need to convince you of something that I feel in my heart or my spirit, nor do I feel threatened by it if you don't believe . For me, it exists, it is, it has a presence in my life. It has moved through my life in many special and beautiful ways, helped me cope, shared with me guidance, and otherwise helped me along my path. It exists for me, because I acknowledge it, and open my heart to it. For you the answer is somewhere else, or in some other form. If you need to be convinced of the existence of a creator, well, I don't know if it is that you wish to prove such things don't exist, or if you are seeking a reason to believe in something higher than yourself. That is up to you, may you find what you are looking for... Good luck...

How does our body turn food into bigger body parts and hair and fingernails?

How do some body hairs know when to stop growing?

I believe in the God who designed us, and think about the options.

Our nose could have been put under our arms, and our teeth on our ears, and our legs could be footless. This sounds sort of silly but it is true.

I hope you gain faith,.... and how big would a book be, if it had all the information in our DNA in it?

What holds our millions of cells together?

Why is the body so quiet with so many moving parts?

The Divine conforms to our expectations. The Divine is actually the sentient nature of the universe, broken down into smaller and smaller units from galactic clusters down to electrons. All matter is actually just energy, including us. We perceive ourselves as being sentient, thinking, and most of us perceive ourselves as 'spiritual' beings. If we can be intelligent and sentient, in our way according to our species' particular adaptations, why can't a planet or star be aware and 'thinking' according to it's own particular way? As a product of the world that grew us, couldn't we just be sharing the awareness and sentience that our planet has? Of course, only a small part of Her bio-mass is primate so most of Her 'thought process' would be utterly alien to us.

If we define god as (things like) love, morality, self-sacrifice, consideration, cooperation and your conscience than I think if you're a person operating on principles of god you are already convinced.
