What is the meaning or reason as to why coins are used in a wedding? What are they for? How would the ceremony go?

It is to symbolise the dowry that used to be customary.

In what culture are you referencing, in the Spanish tradition it would just be handed to him with the exchange of the rings. I had a tropical wedding and used that as decoration (lil bags of chocolate coins) at the head table to pull it a lil more of the Carib isle traditions.

In England, the poem went Something Old, Something New
Something borrowed, something blue
and a sixpence in your shoe.

It was just a sign of good luck. Bringing money into the marriage helps the couple grow in prosperity. Though really other cultures use coins in wedding ceremonys as well. How do you mean it?
