A righteous and just man wants all possible to be saved and made happy.
The love thy neighbor commandment with Godly love.
Jesus said there was none good but his Father in heaven.
So mankind gets a chance to love and save mankind.
Heb.9:27; It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgement.
1Cor.15:22-28,51-53; As in Adam all die, even so shall all be made alive.
Acts 17:31; 24:15; There will be a resurrection of the just and the unjust.
John 5:20,24,26-29; All that are in the graves shall hear the voice of Jesus and come forth, some can not be saved by God, Jesus, the holy angels, the 144,000 and the just [ the meek, the righteous, the neighbor lover ]; so that is why after Rev.20:1-6,12,13; 1000 years and No Satan, when the 1000 years judgement days ends Rev.20:7-10; There is an end to Satan and Gog and Magog.
All perfect enter into the kingdom paradise of God.

Let me share from the Christian perspective, based on what I know about the Bible.
But first, let's go back to the web for definitions.

http://www.wordwebonline.com/search.pl?w=good
"Righteous" has gotten such a negative connotation because we think of self-righteous. Righteous is about being Christ-like and God-like. If we were God, how should we react (and I'm not talking about the negative nasty comments here, but in terms of a loving and kind God who cares about us).
When we think in terms of the spiritual armor, there is that chestplate of righteousness (I can't use the actual term here for chestplate because Yahoo! will flag it). In order to keep that sharp, we have to stay righteous with God. That means we have to live our lives the way that God wants us to be - where we shun any type of sinful behavior. Not because we are "Better" than others, but because we love God and want to live our lives in a good, compassionate and caring way. The Bible says that the greatest gift is love. So I think that Righteousness has to be love and goodness combined.

That is a very interesting question......very interesting indeed!! In my view there is no difference but many disagree.
There was a time when I would have liked to have been known as a Holy Man but that term came to such disrepute in our cultture I got to were I hated the expression. And I would have settled to be known as a Righteous Man but no more for that term has also fallen into disrepute in our culture. So now I am content to be known as a Good Man. But I can already see the secular world gathering its forces to attack the label Good Man as being Holier than thou or Self Righteous.

a good man does what he must to keep his family happy
a rightous man deos what he must to let the world know about it
starting off with a bad joke is part of the game plan...
Any ways rightous is the same as good in the way that they are the means to further certain things. What is good for you might be bad for others... there is no real distinction between the two only that one sounds more imposing so therefore would be used on one that changes more than the other. It sounds too comparative to me so i would rather lose the competition and be good then be an a hole and rightous...

Good Man?
There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes” (Romans 3:10-18).
Righteous man.
We are justified, declared righteous, at the moment of our salvation. Justification does not make us righteous, but rather pronounces our righteousness. Our righteousness comes from placing our faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. His sacrifice covers our sin, allowing God to see us as perfect and unblemished. Because as believers we are in Christ, God sees Christ's own righteousness when He looks at us. This meets God's demands for perfection; thus, He declares us righteous--He justifies us.

A righteous man is always a good man
BUT,
a good man is not a righteous man.
The righteous man is a redeemed man. A redeemed man will always be a good man no matter what..
The good man is just a moral or nice man. He has not been redeemed. If push comes to shove he most likely will compromise. All do not compromise
BUT,
a good man needs to be redeemed.

a good man does works for his own selfish pride and pleasure, he does something and exagerates it for the world to see, just so they can get the glorification. a righteous man however, does works, and doesn't expect to be rewarded, they do it to help those around them...
