My dog, (2 yrs) was chasing my son on Friday. It is Tuesday and she is still limping and her foot is a tad swollen, however she is walking on it and still continues to try to run. Should I take her to the vet or wait it out? We have been kenneling her in the day. Her one toe seems to be tender to the touch is there anything that can be done for a toe?

Yes there is a lot that can be done, but a vet needs to do it.

Please take her to the vet ASAP, it has already been a long time for your dog to be limping on a foot injury, leaving it will only make it worse.

You didn't say what kind of foot injury - if it's a cut it should've been stitched the same day, but it will probably be too late for that now. She will need anti-inflammatories and antibiotics at a minimum - foot injuries get infected quickly as they're always in contact with the ground. The fact that it is swollen indicates it may already be infected - or there may be a foreign object in their causing irritation, which will be causing the swelling, Things like grass seeds work their way in deep, you will not be able to see it by looking, it takes deep investigation to discover.

Please don't delay any longer in getting her to a vet - the rule is with foot injuries, the longer you leave it the worse it gets - and the more expensive!

Because it is swollen, she is probably in some pain. She could have broken that toe somehow, or she could have stepped on something sharp. If that was the case, there may be an infected wound that caused it to swell, or a sharp object may still be lodged in her foot still. Try to look at the pad and the flesh between the toes as carefully as you can and see if you can find anything. The best option would be to bring her to a vet, however. They can search for a wound, and if there is an object in her flesh, they can take it out much more safely than you could at home and flush and clean it for you. If it's not a foreign object, they can take x-rays and see if there's a problem that way. Either way, they can prescribe pain medications and antibiotics if there is an infection, and it would be best for her is you brought her in.

Good luck. =]

check the toe over carefully if the dog will let you and see if the nail is spit or something is caught in the skin around it. If you cannot see an obvious reason for the swelling, take the dog to the vet as foot injuries caught early are easier and less expensive to treat. I hope this helps,

Take her to the vet. The vet will probably start her on antibiotics and possibly steriods to reduce the swelling and keep the dog from licking the toe which will actually make the toe worse over time).

Take your dog to the vet, hon. No one here can even see the foot, x-ray it, or anything else, even if there were a vet answering this question. If she's limping, she's in pain. Pain is caused by injury...... see a vet. And if she has torn a toenail, broken bone, compound ]fracture where the skin is broken you are looking at an infection if you don't get it treated and the longer you wait, the bigger the bill.... trust me..... go, hon, today..............

You may want to consult your vet. She could have torn a ligament or injured the pad in some way. Keeping her kenneled during the day is a good idea in order for her to rest her foot. He may suggest an anti inflammatory to help with the swelling, but let him prescribe that.

Take her to the vet ASAP. 4 days is long enough to wait. The longer the injury persists the more expensive it may become to treat.
Poor thing!

She perhaps got a rock/stone bruise. I think she'll be fine. The crating is a good thing. A little aqua therapy (warm water sprayed with maybe the kitchen sink sprayer?) wouldn't hurt. My bet is she'll be better in a few days. But if you get to this time next week and it's still an issue, maybe it's vet time.

Take her to the vet. My dog broke off his claw and it sounds just like that. They removed it and he took a week off and is back to normal now.

She really should, be seen by a vet. He would be the only one, who can determine, what the problem is and how to treat it.
