There are un-Biblical legends that Adam had a wife before Eve who was named Lilith. The legends vary significantly, but they all essentially agree that Lilith left Adam because she did not want to submit to him. According to the legends, Lilith was an evil, wicked woman who committed adultery with Satan and produced a race of evil creatures. None of this is true. There is no Biblical basis whatsoever for these concepts. There is no one in the Bible named Lilith. Genesis chapter 1 does not record the creation of Lilith with Genesis chapter 2 recording the creation of Eve. Rather, Genesis chapter 2 is a "closer look" at the creation of Adam and Eve as recorded in Genesis chapter 1. The Bible specifically says that Adam and Eve were the first human beings ever created (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:18-25). This "Lilith" myth is popular in some radical feminist movements because Lilith is an example of a woman refusing to submit to male headship

According to ancient Jewish documents, Adam's first wife was Lillith. She, however, refused to take second place to Adam, so God punished her by making her either a vampire or a demon or both depending on which story you read. The all knowing people who created the modern Bible didn't include that story in the Old Testament, just as they left out a large number of possible books in both Old and New Testament. The books they included had to be politically correct after all, and that has nothing to do with truth or God.

According to some scholors in the ancient Hebrew beliefs there was indeed a wife previous to Eve. Her name was Lilith and she was banished due to her being disobedient to Adam.(to give the abridged version). To the best of my knowledge she is not accepted or acknowledged in any of the currently accepted religious texts associated with Judiasm, Christianity or Islam.

Adam's first wife was a relic of an early rabbinical attempt to assimilate the Sumero-babylonian goddess Belit-ili or Belili
to Jewish mythology. hebraic tradition said Adam married Lilith because he grew tired of coupling with beasts, a common custom of Mideast herdsmen, though the Old Testament declared it a sin. Adam tried to force Lilith to lie beneath him in the missionary position favored in male-dominant societies. She cursed him and flew away. God sent angels but she cursed them too and spent her time coupling with demons, bearing a hunded children every day. So God produced Eve as a more docile replacement.
Lilith was a Great Mother of settled agricultural tribes who resisted invasions by nomadic herdsmen.

I heard it was a Jewish myth the woman was called Lilith(She and Adam were made from dirt as the myth goes) and she left Eden volunterly b/c Adam weren't let her be on top. Her resonaning was they were both made from dirt so they were both equral.
So she left then tried to eat little children which was why she made some deal with three angels that she weren't eat children if they wore some amlet with the angels names on it. Also the angels were orginally trying to persuade Lilith come back for Adam was whining to God about it.

I heard the same thing. It is in the jewish bible. Genesis 27 says that god made man and woman, then later it says god made eve from adam's rib. It says that the first woman was too bossy and adam didn't like her so she was banished. she ended up having children with the devil and gave birth to the demons that roam the earth.

IIRC according to the Midrash, Adam's first wife was Lilith. This was written in order to soothe the contradiction between Genesis 1 and 2.

The story of Lilith as Adam's first wife is very old and is a part of several traditions, it is not contained in the Christian bible.

Lilith is frequently alluded to in the arts and, regardless of your religious beliefs, knowledge of the story is important. You will fine references to Lilith in places ranging from Goethe's Faust to the tv shows Cheers and Frasier, and from CS Lewis to Castlevania.
