That sounds like a matter of regional electrical codes. It could vary by country, and probably location (residential, commercial, industrial) and perhaps even the current capacity of the branch. In the U.S., I don't believe the NEC has any limit on number of outlets per circuit branch, at least not for homes.

This is actually by rule of thumb, you can have as many as you like. They might not all work at the same time but that is understandable. You will always be governed by your circuit breaker (20A) and the thickness of your cable which should be 2,5mm2. So you can 20 plugs but together their current will be limited by the 20A breaker. As a rule of thumb you normal wiring 4 plugs to a 20A circuit breaker.

I have never seen more than 1 outlet for a particular 240V branch. They are usually designated for high capacity appliances: clothes dryer, oven, shop tool (i.e. power saw).

I have never seen more than one 240 volt outlet per breaker in my experience.
