As a tool to document your work?
Microsoft Word doesn't seem like a good word processing package for electrical electronics engineering - It's not easy to use with diagrams and special lettering and doesn't have the precision an engineer would need.

As a tool to communicate?
Typing out emails and letters, and very basic user documentation, Microsoft Word is okay. But there are better packages out there.

Electrical engineers spend a lot of word processing time doing reports to supervisors, sharing facts with other engineers, and writing technical papers. Words does that the best. For graphics they can use Visio and drop the diagrams into Word documents very easily.

It will help you write papers and reports in electonics engineering.
Microsoft Visio may also help in making diagrams.
