besides the coat colors, they look like goldens. is this a real breed?

To me the Hovawart's coat seems thicker:

*I also think the temperament is way different, as this can become fearful of everything if not socialized. And usually with a Golden they are the ideal 'family' pet.

They are nothing like a Golden. In Germany they are used as sport dogs, guard dogs and sometimes Police dogs. Do not let the looks fool you.

hovawarts are a German breed used as gaurd dogs. . . Goldens couldent do such a job, they were bred to hunt. Conformation wise.....they are also NOTHING like a golden

They are indeed different breeds, Hovawart's are german. I hadn't heard of one until a few months ago when I read it in a book - and then literally not ten minutes later, one walked into the surgery, which was quite spooky!

Basically, their heads are rather different shapes, and Hovawarts are slightly bigger. There's no doubt they're similiar - I think Hovawart's are more orangey than golden as well.

They are different breeds.I have never heard of a hovawart before though.
