Couldn't guage him off the last fight since he was rewarded a stoppage for hitting Manfredo's forearms. I think that ref's stoppage of that fight hurt Calzage more than it hurt Manfredo.
The stopping of that fight was almost a criminal event ( not to Manfredo, but to us the boxing fans of the world)

The blogbaba think's Calzaghe is long over due to fight a major American boxer, and that if he leaves the friendly confines of the British Isles he will not fair well. He lacks the defensive skills to make a swarming volume of arm punches effective against a good counter puncher, and there are many in America that will test Joe's chin. I think he would be better served fighting Kessler in the British Isle's, it would be the biggest European fight since Sir Henry landed that left hook on Ali. Joe has the skills to beat Mikkel.
Should Calzaghe somehow find himself in the ring against the likes of Bernard Hopkins or Jermane Taylor he would be in over his head. Winky Wright would be a nightmare for Calzaghe as well, but Joe would make more money with those three fights than he has up to this point in his previous 40 plus career bouts. Time will tell, and the clock is ticking on Calzaghe, a boxer only has a select number of fights then father time takes the place of your opponent.

The more I think about it the more I believe that Calzaghe needs to do himself a favor and break away from Frank Warren. Warren is taking the safe fights and easy money. I read in an article that Calzaghe has broke his right hand again and that as of now they are looking to fight Inkin in July. I guess Warren's managed to maneuver Joe into another easy payday. Calzaghe by the way said he would be ready for the July match up. Does that tell you something? Because yesterday I read where Warren said that Kessler's camp stated they would not be ready for a July fight date. That's pure crap that Warren is spewing. Calzaghe can be ready for a fight in July and still have time to heal before training and Kessler who is completely healthy can't be ready by July? Frankie is ducking Kessler. He knows deep down it's a very dangerous fight for Calzaghe, and with Hatton no longer in his camp and Khan a long way away from making a big money fight, Frankie doesn't want to risk his meal ticket. In my opinion he is in no way helping Calzaghe's legacy as a great fighter. The great fighters duck no one and fight the best competition available to them to cement their greatness. This isn't happening in the Calzaghe camp. With Joe turning 35 there may not be much left in the tank. I guess he's going to end up being a legend in England only as so many other English fighters end up being. If you continue to let Warren line up soft competition for you Joe, Naz will save you a spot at the local pub so the both you guys can talk about what could have been. That's this American's boxing fans take on Calzaghe. Frankie's doing you no favors Joe.

You can't truly judge him yet due to the fact that his biggest win was against Jeff Lacy, who was truly a bigger much less skilled Jermaine Taylor, and his win over an apparently rushed fight against a sick(allegedly) Chris Eubank. He also struggled at times against Sakio Bika. Joe truly hasn't been in with elite American Fighters or Fighters for that matter, If he manages to beat Kessler at 168 or moves down to fight Taylor at 160 then he will have true respect by USA boxing fans

If you have any questions about Joe Calzaghe then you should at his fight with Jeff Lacy. Jeff Lacy thought to be one of the next big stars in boxing got dismantled physically and mentally. Their was talk that he wasn't going to be the same after that fight... but we'll see. As for Calzaghe fighting better opponents... people don't want to fight him Jermaine Taylor included. Just look at the fights that he's taking.... he's fighting people coming up from junior middleweight. In my opinion he was beat by Winky Wright. Calzaghe is a good fighter and the champ the best match for him is Kessler. Who has 2 of the 3 belts in the super middleweight division. They're going to see about that fight after the bernard hopkins vs. winky wright fight because he may fight one of them also.

Anyone who has ever paid attention to Lacy would have known that he would loose the fight to Calzaghe. Lacy is powerful, but much like Tyson in his later years, tires easy, gets hit a lot, and doesn't posses a lot of speed. Lacy doesn't have much boxing skills when it comes to the art pugilism. He is often bailed out by his brue power. If you can survive the early onslaught while delivering punishment in return, you will take him out everytime. Calzaghe stood up to Lacy, took some shots early and used his superior boxing skills and speed to outland Lacy. Then, when Lacy exerted all of his energy and had nothing left in the tank, Calzaghe went in for the kill. Styles make fights; Calzaghe has the style and ability to beat Lacy 9 of 10 times. But I really would like Calzaghe to face someone equal to his boxing abilities to get a more accurate grade of him. To answer the question, I think Calzaghe definitly has the boxing skills and physical abilities of a true champion, but his competition has been somewhat lacking. As I described, Lacy was made for Calzaghe to punish based on his fighting style and weakness. A fight with Taylor, Hopkins, or maybe even Winky would be huge. I have no desire to see Calzaghe fight Tarver. He only seems to get up for Roy Jones fights and Calzaghe would take that on points.

Good question sir! I think that right now Calzaghe is a very good fighter and does have good boxing skills and power. I will judge my overall opinion on him once he gets into the ring with either Taylor, Kessler, Hopkins, or Wright. If he beats some of these guys, then my opinion will be even higher of him. This will earn him a lot more respect and credibility. Thank you for your question sir.

Why would someone say Ray Mancini when they ealk about good old fighters, Joe is a good fighter and would give Jermaine Taylor a beating , Calzaghe was kind hurt by Manfredo cowardly act of non agression, but hey we have all seen worse. Calzaghe would beat taylor, Be a good fight for Andre Durell to take.

I believe that the only person that has a chance against Calzaghe at this point in time is Mikkel Kessler and this is the fight that all fight fans should be calling for. They are by far the best two Supermiddleweights around. Joe should maybe go after Taylor or Hopkins after he has proved that he is the best around in his own weight class first before he goes after the money fights.
