Do you live in a "no-fault" state? If you do, then you don't have to cover him now.
You don't have to insure him but if he were to get into an accident, your insurance company will automatically insure him on your policy. Also, he would be covered for medical bills whether or not he was on your policy or not. Everyone in your household gets covered for medical bills in a car accident, if they are or are not on your policy. No insurance company or broker will tell you that, but its the truth, if you live in a "no-fault" state. Every state differs but the laws are similar.

This is not health insurance, your kid doesn't get a license and all of sudden they are covered. Your kid is 15, you have to be at least 30 or older, are you that nieve. Yes, you have to call your insurance company and yes your rates will skyrocket. He is a non driver as far as the insurance company is concerned. If he gets in an accident, they will say he wasn't supposed to be driving because he is a "non-driver" Tell him to get a job and pay some of the premium. He might as well learn now that nothing in life comes for free.

Well the way it worked for me is, When my daughter got her permit, she is covered automaticly. When she received her drivers license, we had to add her as a driver. If you do not do this, you will not be covered if they get into an accident. Now alot of this depends on the state you live in. I would call your agent and tell them you are thinking of adding them and ask what it cost. If there is a cost they will tell you.

Usually they find out anyway, but why take the chance?
If he does have an accident, they would not be obligated to pay the claim.
Call your agent let them know your son just got his permit.

You have to call your insurance company. He will be covered for free while he has his temps, but they have to know he is driving. Once he gets his license your looking between an extra 100-150 just for liability. It's expensive.

MOST companies will add a permitted driver to the policy, but not actually rate them until they have a valid license. since your son lives in your home, he NEEDS to be added (by law) to your policy. call your agent and see ifthey are rating him. if they are, you should be able to find a company that won't until he has a full license.

Yes you would have to add him to your insurance but he can pay for his own if he has the money. But if you wanna add him just call up your insurance company and say my son just got his permit and I wouldl ike to add him onto my insurance.

No, he's not automatically covered. If you want him covered, you're going to have to pay for it. It is illegal for him to drive without insurance.

You have to include him as a part time driver to be covered.

Normally no, so I would say you need to call your agent to make 100% you child is covered before you start teaching them to drive.
