Your amendment can be filed whenever you want. Your tax forms for the 2006 tax year are due by 4/17/07 this year. They must be filed by this date, regardless of if you are due a refund or not. You can file for an extension if needed, but this must be filed by 4/17/07.

Everyone has the deadline of April 15 regardless of the situation with their taxes. If you want extra time beyond April 15 to file, you have to file a form called Request For Extention Of Time To File. It has to be filed by April 15, and on it..... you explain why you want an extention of time.
In other words, they expect to hear from everyone by April 15, one way or another.
