To qualify for Linguist (97E) there is no raw asvab cut off but you do need to score at least a 95 in the "Skilled Technical" (ST) line score.
Then, you have to score a 95 on the Defense Language Aptitude Battery or DLAB. This is an extremely difficult test that requires you to translate the fake language of Esperanto. They do not expect you to know Esperanto but you should be able to identify verbs, nouns and derive meaning without having ever heard the language before based on inflection, logic, and other clues.
The higher you score on the DLAB, the more language options you can choose from. For example, Spanish requires a 95 and Mandarin Chinese requires a 110. Only about 20% of people who take the DLAB score above 90.
If you don't have an ASVAB above 80, you probably shouldn't;t waste your time with the DLAB.

The ASVAB is depending on the averages. The nationwide conventional is 50%. So, say you score a 60%, that means that you scored more suitable powerful than fifty 9% of the those who have taken it. in case you score a ninety 9, which I had 3 human beings do at the same time as i became a recruiter, then you scored more suitable powerful than ninety 8% of those who have taken it. The AFQT it extremely is the ASVAB score in problem-free words counts Mathematical information, Arithmatic Reasoning, Paragraph Comprehension, and be conscious information. all of the different factors of the attempt are to provide you a concept of which field you would obviously excel in.

Linguist is not tested for on the ASVAB it is a separate test all together. There is also no way to study for it because it the test has nothing to do with knowing or speaking another language. The test is a funky test that just tests to see if you have a natural ability to learn another language. You are required to take the ASVAB, but tell your recruiter that you also want to take the DLAB aka the langage test. If you score high enough on that test then you can be considered for a liguist job in the service you are considering.
