I have been going through the Religion section voting for answers, and I find the section dominated by Christians answering the questions as if there could be no perspective for the answer other than the Christian perspective. Forinstance, a few people have asked questions about why there are so many religions. I am Pagan, and like many Pagans I have studied many religions, and so I know that this question can easily be answered by quoting the Buddha, "There are as many paths to the one as there are lives of men." However, none of the Christians answering the question seemed to be able to look at the question from a theological perspective other than their own. This is just one example out of many to be found in the religion section.
Is there some taboo in Christianity against studying other religions? Or a taboo against understanding other religious perspectives?
I don't want to think of Christians as close minded and ignorant, but that is the perception from what I'm reading here.

i think that with christianity, there is a fear of the "known". god forbid adam and eve to eat from the tree of knowledge. there is much control in that faith, and many people follow it blindly. they are told not to question anything. if there are questions, the answers are always "god knows all" or "god has a plan" or "the answer is in the bible" those sort of answers. if they disobey god, they're going to hell. it's all just a way to control the followers. knowledge is power, and god is supposed to be the one with all the power.
i'm pagan as well. you must see what i have - many christians, when they start to ask questions, end up losing their faith, or converting to a religion that makes more sense to them.
i hope my answer doesn't sound mean, because it's not meant to be. this is what christianity looks like from an outsider's point of view.

It may be that Yahoo! Answers as a forum attracts the proselytes more often than the true seekers and that it is not a true cross-section of Christians as a group in the world. Perhaps the folks who post the most out of the Christian population here are the ones who are the most zealous about converting the so-called "heathens." It is a shame that they do not realize their methods not only do not work but also cast an unflattering shadow across the rest of their more open-minded Christian brethren.

I've found this too. I think the majority of Christians on here are close-minded and ignorant about other religions except for what they have heard on TV or from other people who may not be right. Of course not all Christians can possibly be like this since they do make up 33% of the world's population but a lot of them are like this. Actually a lot of them don't even know about their own religion so we can't say its only the religions.

I only answer questions from a Christian perspective because that's what I am. I have, however, studied many other religions, and I was actually Wiccan for about five years.

I am christian and I do agree with your point of a majority of christians being closed-minded. I also believe that this is a choice made by them or a concious decision made by individuals possibly at the same time they devote their lives to Christ. This may be a mistake on their part but do not write off all of "us" because of the sins of a few. what they are missing is that each person has a right to his or her opinion whether right or wrong that person will be held accountable someday.

We can accept the practise of other religions but how could we possibly ever say that there may be truth in them when the very tenet of our belief is that Jesus Christ is THE way, THE truth and THE life. You quoted Buddha, I'll quote Christ, "The roads to hell are many and wide and many will go down them. Find the narrow path". There is no taboo in studying other religions, in fact I have studied several and have come to the same truth over and over again - That Jesus Christ IS Lord.

I think that some Christians are closed minded just like any other religion has their closed minded people. Some take the Bible literally and are afraid to look deeper into their own religion. I guess some are only repeating what they've been taught to say.

Other than God sacrificing His own Son on the cross there is no other way for eternal salvation so why would I want to go to any other religions which are cults and do not lead to eternal salvation! John1:1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and was God.

Mom's father was a Baptist preacher. I was brought up to believe it is a sin to even question the family religion and not to heed other religions. I attended buddhist services and unwisely told some of my family. At church, the preacher was praying to have the devil of Buddhism removed from me. That did not work as he hoped, because I removed his religion as well as Buddhism. My siblings dare not question their religion or explore other religions, but my IQ is highest and my courage is much greater. I questioned everything even at age 7.

That is how they were raised, they were taught never to question there faith, and it could be considered taboo, close minded or ignorant; which I believe is also dangerous because of it.
I try not to be offensive, but I'm only human.
