Personally, I use music & repetition.
Think about how many songs that you know all the words to.
Why is this? Repetition........

Or how many of you know pretty much all the words to the movie 'Grease'? (Don't tell me I'm alone on this one either....)

It's repetition......what do you do?

Tthere are three significant components which must be in place before your plan to commit a portion of the Bible to memory can be successful. These components can be summarized in three words:
Motivation - Success in scripture memorization can be attained if you have a sustained desired to do so and only if the reasons behind those desires are the right ones.

Method - The largest portion of the whole process of memorization scripture is purely the mechanical task of getting the information into your head.

Monitoring - It is the simple truth that most people are more apt to accomplish a task if they are called to account in the short term and on a regular basis. The same is true for scripture memorization.

I use repetition and index cards... I have problems with memory so it takes a great deal of effort to memorize anything.
As far as the musical "Grease" You will have a laugh at this.
I never could understand the words clearly, so up until recently, the TV competition I thought the words were something like "Your the willow of the world." Which never made any sense to me, but I never investigated it further.

I still have a hard time hearing "Your the one that I want."

It is repetition but there is a lot more to it than that. The time of day, (night before bed is extremely helpful) how awake your are, what you are doing, (Walking is very helpful because it increases the blood flow) memorizing passages vs verses. (When things flow and make sence they are much easier) stick at it, Music can help, memorize out loud (you remember what you hear more than what you say) find someone to test you regularily. I memorized almost all the epistles, plus much more over a ten yeaqr period and it sure gives your brain a good work out. Oh, also, meditate on it after you learn it, it help to understand what it says. And review review review.

I have always had a problem with memorization of anything. The best way I have found to deal with this is to just know where to look up the information I need. I have found that if you know where to find info, you don't need to memorize. I would love to be able to spout out memorized info, but can't seem to memorize anything. I even have to think real hard on some of the multiplication tables.

Go to egames.com I have a computer game
(How well do you know the Bible) that asks three questions and you have a mutable choice of three answers. After you've picked your answer they give you the Bible scripture to find the answer. There are flash card games as well but sense you already are hooked on your computer may as well try out the computer game.I have learned allot from this game and they even have certificate you can print off if you wish! I bought mine at an Office Max store.

definitely through music, if someone starts saying a verse, I can usually finish it in a song. That is how I learned all the books of the bible as well! Music is a big part of my life tho~

I taught Sunday School and that helped me. My husband asked God to help him to remember and man could he. Sometimes it was like listening to a walking bible, but as the saying goes if you dont use it you lose it.
