I belive the writer wanted to know who currently is the best active fighter in boxing today, not the best all time. Currently the best fighter in boxing is Floyd Mayweather, Jr. He is widely recognized by all boxing insiders and fans as the pound for pound #1 fighter in the world today. Mayweather is 37-0 with 24 KO's. He has won titles at 130, 135, 140, and 147 lbs.
Mayweather has a May 5th PPV mega fight with Oscar De La Hoya. I personally think that De La Hoya is too big for Mayweather and will knock him out early in the fight. Mayweather is about a 2-1 favorite coming into the bout, despite moving up another division to 154 lbs to fight De La Hoya.

The best boxing fighter the blogbaba ever saw was Roberto Duran from 1972 - 78. As a 135 lb. fighter he was truly a force of nature, beating Ken Buchanan for the first of four world titles. He was able to beat Ray Leonard at 147lbs , a feat neither Hearns nor Hagler could accomplish, and won titles all the way up to 154lbs and 160lbs (Davy Moore & Iran Barkley) a full 25 pounds heavier than his prime fighting weight. He went a full 15 rounds with Marvin Hagler, when Hagler was in his prime, and at an age when most of us were changing the diapers of our grandchildren got robbed in what I thought was a victory over 5 time world champion Hector Camacho.
It was at 135 that Duran truly shined, even though he fought well past his prime and was extreamly successful as he moved up in weight. Their has never been a 135 lb. fighter better that Duran.

Floyd Mayweather the best ever and he is peaking now. He should retire after beating De La Hoya and Mosley. He could probably go up and win a 160 alphabet title too and join De La Hoya as 6 division champs (even though DLH shouldnt really be, he got spanked by Felix Sturm).

l would have to say Sugar Ray Robinson. Look at his record: 175-19-6-2 (110 KOs) in 202 professional bouts with two no-decisions. Who else do you know that went on a 91 fight winning streak?????? Next to Sugar Ray Robinson I would have to say the only boxing to retire undefeated......Rocky Marciano who went 49-0 with 43 KOs......These would be my top 2 of all times. Everyone think it should be Ali, but look at his record 56-5 (37 KOs)...????
