When I first started working out I got a personal training for a few sessions...it was totally worth it, he told me that you need to combine weights with a cardio work out. When you go to work out the first thing you should always do is a short warm up, and always stretch before and after your workout, then Cardio then weights. For cardio you should start out slow only about 30 min a day, you can find your target heart rate all over the web, just look. Same thing with the weights, start out with less weight and more reps then after your body becomes accustomed to lifting you can decide if you want to lift with more weight and less reps for more muscle gain or less weight and more reps for a leaner, longer look. And its a good idea when you first start to designate a weekday for each part of your body so that you are not working the same muscles every day, they need time to rest and recoup. Keep in mind throughout that you need to pay attention to your body, it will tell you when you have had enough for the day. And also cardio and weights go hand in hand, the weights help you build the muscle and the cardio puts those muscles to work burning the fat. Good luck, and congrats on deciding to get healthy!!

Definitely do cardio first. That way, your heart rate will be high when you are doing your lifting/weights & you will burn more calories than you would had you done the weights w/ your heart rate being normal. Plus, sometimes when you do the weights first, you do not get as good of a cardio workout b/c your muscles have already been taxed/are tired.

I've read that you should do cardio first to oxygenate your muscles before you workout with weights. people do it both ways, but cardio first works better for weight loss.

never attempt cardio-vascular exercises on your initial attempts to lose weight. if you are already overweight start with thigh, legs and lower abdomen workouts and gradually shift upwards. the heart needs to be accustomed to heavy exercising.
