Stonehaven, nr Aberdeen, has the fire balls at hogmanay, where performers parade down the streets and swing balls of fire around their bodies. They march down to the harbour and throw the fire into the water. It is supposed to symbolise getting rid of the demons from last year, which is pretty cool.
It is set down by the sea and is surrounded by huge white cliffs, which is beautiful. Also, theres Dunottar Castle, which is a pretty big tourist attraction. And it was home to the man who invented the pnumatic tyre and to Lewis Grassic Gibbon (author of Sunset Song)
Oh, and the 'deep fried mars bar' was invented in Stonehaven....mmmmmm so fattening but strangely yummy

My home town is Lincoln England, it is expanding all the time, it's population is 87, 000 . It is a very historic city, dating back to 1st Century BC an Iron Age settlement built by a deep pool now called the Brayford Pool in the River Witham, at the foot of a large hill on which the Normans later built a Cathedral and Castle, and the name Lincoln probably came from this period. It is also a city that attracts the tourists with Steep Hill and the Bailgate which are in the areas around the Castle and Cathedral. It has also the University of Lincoln built in recent years by the Brayford Pool. There are many more good things about Lincoln too many to mention. It is a beautiful city well worth visiting.

NOTHING. My home town used to be good, when I was younger, but now it has been destroyed! The Council have allowed so much to be changed, My junior / infant school has had its name changed from a local Sussex hero to some 'PC' name, the Comprehensive has been torn down and replaced by a car park and sports stadium which is so expensive. The park I used to play in has been altered so much and halved to make way for rabbit hutch houses.
The town centre is grotty and dark.
The people are rude, ungrateful and so I don't know wrong.
I moved out of My home town 14 years ago after living there for 26 years, I only live 6 miles away and the contrast is so much better.
A council that cares, clean, people who just say hello to strangers when passing, bands playing in bandstands in park and centre of town at weekends? It was a big shock when I moved here and now love it too much to move away.

I'm from Portsmouth. A fantastic place. History - Naval dockyard, Victory, Nelson. Beaches. Small city - easy to walk around, no car needed. Lovely bars with gardens. Fantastic diverse culture. Gun Wharf. Shopping.
Just seen it being slated by someone on another question because people don't let you change lanes when driving?? You want to go to London if you want to see some aggressive driving m8!
Just love it! Unfortunatley don't live there anymore but miss it bad.
Now live in a small town in Cornwall. Very pretty.

The seaaaaaaa!
I get to live on the Gower Peninsula ALL YEAR ROUND!
(You may well ask why I'm not down the beach enjoying the sunshine right now. Answer: it's Easter - all the tourists are down there)
Must say though, it's not my home town/area. I can't think of ANYTHING good about my hometown.

My hometown is El Paso, TX. It is loaded with diverse culture. We have a strong Mexican influence, being on the border of Mexico. We have Indian influence because of surrounding reservations. We have the wonderful diversity from New Mexico and it's artists. And happily, we have just a tiny bit of Texas mixed in, just enough to be fun, not enough to be obnoxious like East Texas. We have the stark beauty of the desert with and the majesty of bare mountains because we are at the end of the Rocky Mountains. You will not find food as diverse and delicious as you will in El Paso. The weather is great. It gets hot, but not humid. And the people are friendly.

To be honest, theres not a thing good about the town where I came from. Buckie on the Moray Firth, the best thing I ever did was get my children out of there. For all those on answers who live in that part of the country they know how bad a place it is.

We've got the longest Pier in the world, great place to live as well!!
Southend Pier is a major landmark in Southend-on-Sea. Extending 2,158 m (a mile and a third) into the Thames Estuary, it is the longest pleasure pier in the world. Sir John Betjeman is noted as saying that "the Pier is Southend, Southend is the Pier" [verification needed]. The pier is a Grade II listed building. [1]
