Learn to coast first. I gradual downhill is great for learning. Go to the top of the hill and try to glide down without touching your feet to the ground or the pedals. When you have astered that, try to put your feet on the pedals and turn them. You will fall, but you'll get it.

The EASIEST way is to lower the seat until you can touch the ground with BOTH feet. Take the pedals off too. Now you have a "fast walker" which was the first form of bicycle. What you do is sit on the seat and push off with your feet. you can walk or run with the bike simply holding you up. just keep doing this until you are comfortable balancing. then put the pedals back on and raise the seat so that you can pedal without hurting your knees. Once you learn, you can go ANYWHERE on a bike. no gas to buy, no insurance, no license! Be safe!

dont listen to this JAY guy. why the hell would you send some one to the top of a hill that cant ride a frigging bike??? next you will tell babies to juggle steak knives. what you do is ride the bike and slowly over time raise the training wheel height little by little. that way you will tilt side to side but it will catch you untill you get the hang of it. thats how my father taught me and i taught my son. it works.

start off on a small incline (going down) and you do not have to worry about pedaling at first start off and as the small hill declines in decent you will have to pedal to keep up on the contraption you are trying to ride and as you need or want to come to a halt the slower you go the more you will feel the need to come to a stop and the slower you are going you will feel the need to use your left leg to balance youself at rest and you will need to do this as your bike comes to a mostly complete stop

You do learn to balance while riding it. And you WILL fall off. Several times. But if you give up, you're a wuss.
