My wife and I are white from Alabama. Can I call my son Jesus like the Spanish do? Is this an honour or is it blasphemous? We already have a cat called Moses.

Jesus is a common name in South America. He'd have a good patron saint but maybe a challenge in school. I considered calling my child Jesus, it was a girl and she is called Mary. I think he would be blessed. Jesus has other names - Joshua, Yeshua, Yehoshua, Emmanuel, Juramidam and Sananda. Also he was a priest of the Order of Melchizedek and every menber of the Order is also called Melchizedek so you have plenty to choose from. There is nothing blasphemous about it.

Why not? America's a free country, isn't it? Brits & northern Europeans, see the naming of a child Jesus as blasphemous. In southern Europe and the south of the American countinent it is acceptable. If you are surrounded by people of northern European heritage then don't name your baby jesus.

While it is the highest honor that you could bestow on your child, I believe it may cause your child to be teased and even mocked incessantly by his peers.

Unless you have a very strong faith and can impart that to your
child so that they can stand the verbal abuse that children are very good at without cracking under the pressure, I would not recommend it. Children can be very vicious vocally because they don't consider the ramifications coming from their words
and actions in a lot of cases.

Why not?Alternatively, you could call him Joshua, which is a variation of Yeshua(Jesus).Same meaning, but it won't offend anyone.Anyway,I'd say that wanting to name your kid after the Lord just shows how much you love and respect Him.So I would'nt worry about it if I were you. But if you're still unsure, why not consult your pastor for his opinion?I'm sure he will be able to provide you with some insight into the matter.

You can call your child what ever name you like. Jesus is a nice name so go for it. Most Muslims have Muhammad in their name somewhere so why not Jesus.

I'm sure you can, I don't see what is blasphemous about it. I was named after a saint, and not living up to her reputation at all. Am I being blasphemous?

Many people name their children Jesus. I am pretty confident that he is going to be teased if you name him Jesus. I would name my child Jesus. It is not blasphemous unless you did it to mock God. : )
