Religion is not a cure for death. Religion feeds on people's fear of death. It removes it from us and turns it into something to fear. Death is just another stage of our existence. It's the only certainty in life. It just mean that you're not anymore...and you already have not been!
Afterlife is not a comfort...it's stressful. I find the idea of nothing after death of great comfort.
The afterlife concept is arrogant!

If you care to check for Life After Life, Life After Death, and Reincarnation in the internet, you should be convinced that there is life after death.
Also check for Dr. Melvin Morse, Dr. Raymond Moody and
Dr. Ian Stevenson, and many others. See what they said
about the subject.
I myself is afraid of dying too - but that is something we cant
avoid. So, face it head-on. Since I am assured that there
is life after life, why should I afraid?
For myself, I would think all religions are talking about the
same thing - "be good and you will be rewarded". Like
going on a journey, some prefer to walk, other take a bus,
an airplane, or even a ship! So, I would suggest dont
think your religion is the only truth in the world. To me this
is stupidity and ignorance. All the while, we believe there
is no other lifeform in the universe except EARTH. But now
what are the new discoveries!

I think that people find it difficult to accept that, since they are thinking beings, that there is going to be a time when all thoughts stop. The afterlife, whether Heaven, or reincarnation, is a way for humans to maintain a delusion of immortality - that in a sense, we never really die.
Religion may just be a standardisation of these thoughts.

Well, if your concept of death was "universalism" that all (or the vast majority) went to heaven, then death would be comforting. It is a very frustrating world ... when you consider how much better it could be if people didn't have the "free will" to be selfish.

My impression is that atheists are "counting on" annihilation ... being "worm food" and that's it.

The Bible teaches some pretty sobering things, including:
* We will stand before a righteous judge when we die.
* We are all sinners, unworthy to be let into a perfect heaven.
* Followers of Christ who have repented (turned away from their sin) and surrendered control of their life to Him will receive mercy.
* Non believers will receive justice
* Mockers and scoffers will be treated especially harshly.
* It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of an angry God.

The blood of Jesus has conquered sin and death. To get the cure for death get Jesus. Religion never cured anybody of anything. Religion causes more illness and grief than anything else. Jesus is not about religion, but about a one-on-one relationship with God. Religion is about self-righteousness.

With your Faith, Forgiveness, and Trust through Christ there IS NO death. Your last heartbeat on earth is your FIRST heartbeat in Eternity with Christ. You CAN find THE Comfort you are looking for if you accept Christ as your Savior. IF you would like to know more, Read Gods Word, or email me and I will help you. I cannot do the saving, only Christ, but I can let you know of His wonderful love and assurance.

it would be more depressing
allot of the meaningfulness of life would be gone

Since Jesus walked out of His tomb after raising at least 3 people with eyewitnesses... the afterlife question is moot

I don't see how it is. You were dead before you were born and that wasn't unpleasant. I do think that a lot of people have religion for that reason, I just don't get it.
