Since I reduced breastfeeding my 13month old baby to nights only, I always feel some pain on my nipple when she sucks at night and am sure she doesnt bite me. And these past days the pain has increased and even the nipples have a cut as if bitten on them. But i feel no pain, swelling or tenderness on my breasts else I'd have thought its sign of pregnancy. I'd have stopped breastfeeding completely but i just dont want to stop her yet. Any suggestion, help or idea of wot's going on?

Again I went through this also, the tears/cuts on my nipple were from my daughter suckling harder to get milk, but I breast fed exclusively (until she was almost 3) if you pull your little one off of he breast and he is still suckling this will cause the cuts if done repeatedly like any other part of skin if rubbed a lot it will get cuts/break. What I did was get some of that breast cream to moisturize my nipples to help them heal and keep them soft, when the cuts heal they will get a scab on them and when your son feeds again he will pull the scab off causing the cut to never heal, try pumping for a while until they feel better and then resume feed directly from the breast also those creams are safe for baby so you don't need to wash your breast before feeding but you might not want to feed immediately after applying the cream.

im no expert on this, just takeing a guess. what it could be is that since you decreased the number of times you breastfeed, your nipples could be partially healing or not being used to it anymore. it may seem fine to you after over a year, but you put a nursing mouth on a non nursing breast, and it would hurt like all get out. your nipples have probably just toughened up and gotten used to it by now. by reducing the frequency, they probably are getting sensitive to the pain again, even with just the twelve or so hours in between. think of it this way...if someone were to repetedly poke you on the arm in the same area, it might hurt at first but eventually, you get used to it and its no big deal...but if that person were to stop for a few hours, you began to recover, then they came back and started pokeing your now bruising arm again in that same area....yeah, oww. however, pain swelling and tenderness in your breast as a symptom of pregnancy is cause by the mild ducts preparing to produce milk. since the milk is already there, you would not have that symptom. im assumeing there are other factors, like lateness in your cycle maybe, to make you think you might be pregnant?if sore nipples were the only thing conserning you, then relax. your fine. also, your daughter by now has teeth, and even if she's not intentionally biteing down(god, it hurts to even type that) her teeth are comeing in contact with and rubbing against your nipple. that could explain the cuts. try useing udder cream, i hear it helps. good luck with everything.

Try holding her in a different position when you nurse [football hold, side lying.] Is she getting lazy about her mouth placement?-'dragging' on the nipple.
You could be pregnant-check it out.
