I watch CNN, Fox News and Occaisionally MSNBC, so I can get varying view points on current events. The thing to keep in mind is News is a business, and they are in it to make money like every other business. american News Media is sensationalist. What ever attracts the most viewers and increases ratings. Some news networks do tend to lean in one direction or the other so it is better to get your information from a wide variety fo sources and then make an informed decision based on your own ideals and principles. But yeah, all news programs are like that, with special effects and sound effects. I have enclosed a link on why to watch another news network as well.

They are quite tacky but they are definately more entertaining. I used to work for the BBC and I remember when the second gulf war began. We had TVs in all the offices and the first place we looked for news was the BBC News 24 channel but after about 15 minutes of dry impartial war coverage we turned over to either SkyNews or FoxNews and that is where we stayed. Over the top reporting, explosions every five seconds, graphics flying accross the screen. Newsertainment at its best. The BBC and Channel four are still the best if you want the facts but Sky and Fox put on the best shows. They could make a cat being stuck up a tree seem like the dawning of the apocolypse.

Fox does. I don't know about any others, like CNN. My husband has Fox on all day long.
The regular networks that have other programing and just a news hour at 6 and 11 PM don't go for the sound effects.
I'd suppose that Fox has a lot of analysts who think that the sound effects add suspense or drama. I just ignore the sounds.

No, not all American networks use the sound effects. The National netoworks use them for entertainment purposes and to add drama to the stories they are airing, much like movies and television programmes. If you were to watch a newscast of public news or that of a private network, with a smaller budget and different view points, you would notice the difference. Hope this helps.

Recent polls state that only one in four Americans actually believe what they hear on Fox news. Its probably the same 25% that still support the war. Most Americans can't stand Fox news. Try reading The New York Times or The Washington Post for a more accurate description of American events.

For six months a year, the only English language news shows I can get are American (ABC and I think CBC) and they are uniformly AWFUL!!!
Smarmy, patronising, plasticised presenters who assume their viewers are morons.
Not even a pretence of balanced reporting.
There's one programme called 'The World Tonight' that I have never seen covering a story outside the US except for the US forces in the Gulf War.
I thought TV news in the UK was one-sided until I started watching this claptrap.
I hear the US still has some great newspapers - unlike the UK - so I suppose it's a case of swings and roundabouts.

STRANGE THAT THIS QUESTION SHOULD COME UP.
I watched Fox News for the first time yesterday and thought how Amateurish it was. The two presenters were having a discussion among themselves that had nothing to do with the story they were talking about.

Fox is not the best American news network, to be fair though, ITN I find to have a diabolical tabloid, sensationalist style these days and it bugs me enormously.
For the best, measured world news I'd say the Americans do it well with CNN as do we with the BBC.

Please don't watch Fox news. They're not news. They are, well, a poor pitiful excuse for an American News Network. Most REAL News organizations don't even think its a real news show. Personally I prefer CNN, International. I don't like to be confined to my own personal area, I think people should be more informed of whats out there.
