Is it just me or is anyone else sick of hearing about criminals in prison complaining about their human rights? They get compensation for slopping out and complain that this is against their human rights, but I dont see them so up in arms about crime being against the victims human rights.

I say punish them properly - no cushy prisons that are getting more like holiday camps!

Max - I do agree about a right to a fair trial because I would hate to see innoccent people being punished. I would just rather the guilty ones had harsher punishments and not be able to sue for compensation

PkrFan - I am making these judgements through being a victim of crime and a tax payer who pays out for these animals compensation!! maybe schools would have more money if it wasnt for the criminals and I am sick of this 'poor criminal didnt know what they were doing attitude' when our taxes could be going to make our schools a bit better to prevent the whole criminal attitude in this country

That’s one thing I like about the Military our Prisons are no joke and they don’t get television....they make big rocks into little rocks...

Plus Rape is punishable by death.

Why not abandon prisons and make criminals pay back their victims. Its a further crime against the victim to charge the victim (through taxes) to chase and catch the criminal and then drag said criminal into court, convict him, and stick him behind bars. All that food they eat in jail has to be paid for somewhere, thus it's paid for out of taxes.

If somebody commits a crime, their victim should be able to punish them equally to what they did or to choose a lesser penalty. It would be far more efficient and satisfying to the victim. Murderers would be executed. Rapists would be beat up (rape is a crime of violence after all and nobody would want to rape their rapist). The victim would be allowed to reduce the penalty or let the criminal off if they so desired.

Wouldn't that be more efficient for society and more satisfying to the victim?

You shouldn't judge. Calling these prisoners "animals". Lots of times, good people make mistakes. You have no idea the ways alot of these prisoners were raised-many being molested or beaten as children, mentally and physically abused. I think that most people in prison (minus the child molestors, rapists, and murderers) deserve to be treated humanely and that the system should put more effort towards rehabilitating these prisoners through therapy, meds, interactive studies- and less effort beating them and making them feel worse than they already do. One thing that I do think is wrong, though, is giving prisoners free college education without giving it to the rest of us. That's not fair.

I don't have a problem with punishment for crime.

But I think it should be done within certain limits. So prisoners do have rights and they should be respected.

The biggest problem is that if you want to turn a petty criminal into a hardened criminal, you just send them to jail.

I would actually like to see a multi-tierd system. Firstly you have extreme punishment (even corporal punishment), following by a period of incarcertation and education. Finally, the last stage is rehabilition to help them rejoin society and feel useful.

Our desire is to punish, but our goal should be turn criminals into citizens.

good evening my friend people have rights too its called human rights its all about democracy and the expression treat others the way you want to be treated. Prisoners are peopl e they have feelings just like we all do they are hunmans too like us they have made mistakes and are punished . Prisoners of war have rights too both here and abroad have you ever heard of the geneva convention with regards to prisoners of war read that and perhaps you might just like to think about what you have just said. everybody in this country has a right to be treated equlally with the same dignity and respect as everybody else they are entitiled to a fair trial and legal representation and are innocent until proven guilty. that is the law of this country. Please reflect on what you have said and learn to be understading because one day it could be you in the cells and then maybe you will think about what you have said .another thing to reflect uopn ois the familes of these prisoners think about hwat they must be going thorugh especially the children . My sympathy has always been for women who are pregnant and have to have there babies in prison at least thank god the babies are with the mothers . I always think about the episode of holly oaks where becca the teacher accused of child abuse had her baby in prision proven innocent later on but died in prision as a result of a knife attack thats what made me weep and show sympathy.

A prisoner should give up all human rights for the length of time he is in prison. Prisons should go back to the dark ages, filthy cells with straw to sleep on and rats for company. bread and water for food and no early release. Maybe then people wouldnt be so quick to get themselves put in there.

Prisoners have rights. Right to a fair trial and the punishment they earned.

So when was the last time you served time or even worked at a prison...as a ex-corrections officer let me just say to you, shut up. I just love when the public makes judgements when they have no idea about anything.

Sorry that you are a victim but I still stand by my answer.

Could bang on about this all day-but I won't.

Pure and simple:The punishment should fit the crime -otherwise there is no deterrent against committing it in the first place!!
