I see that things will never change until the people understand that by giving one race more rights than the other is not equal. but just causes more Racism between the people.
Most Racism, is caused by the Government not the people. The Government tends to lean toward the people they believe to be having the problem. that is fine, but when they give that race more rights than all the other races. it just tend to start more Racism, for all want the same rights.
For example: the Government tells the people, to start giving jobs to a certain race, and hire them before any other race. but all the Government is doing is causing more Racism against the one that has more rights, If the Government had the brains, they would be able to see this. but until the Government learns this, things will always be the way they are.
You can never give a person more than another and call it equal. that is not equal, but the opposite of equal. what bothers me is that if the people in our Government cannot see how, (should I say dumb) this is? I can see now, why our Government is in such a mess. So please do not put the blame on any race. the blame is our Government.
Maybe I should run for President, ha, ha, ha Yea' right.

We have come a long way, but there is a lot to be done on a daily basis. If people only thought about the fact that we had no choice about who our parents were, then we know that it is very wrong to be racist. Everyone is born equal and should be treated the same. It may never be eradicated, but we all need to search our hearts for the truth.

I think it would be stupid and a lie if I, a very white Anglo-Saxon, tried to pretend that I don't notice the colour of someone's skin, the slant of his eyes or, on hearing his name, don't know that he is probably Muslim.
Personally, I like to get to know people before I make any judgement. However, many people, black, white or whatever, do have pre-conceived ideas. Partly due to propaganda, ignorance or even fear of the unknown. But I remember very well the day that my father, an Anglican priest, said to me, 'You were colour blind from birth.'
You cannot eradicate an awareness of race consciousness. What we can try to promulgate is the idea, strange as it may seem, that we are all human beings. We feel the same pain, and love, we mourn our dead and rejoice in a new born baby, and we are ready to fight to the death to protect our families, we are contaminated with pride for our particular ethnic group.
It's all a question of understanding. Scientists tell us that the Earth is doomed, so we all have to work together to find a solution.
The simple answer to the question would be, not very far.
God help us all!

I think it's been eradicated quite a bit. What hasn't been eradicated is how we treat differerent social classes. For example, Oprah Winfrey is, I believe, the richest female in the United States. By the way, she's black. If we were so racist as so many say we are, I can't see Oprah having made it as far as she has. Look at Condi Rice, I find her an amazing woman. Now, Snoop Dog, EMINEM, your classic, foul-mouthed hooligan, gang-sign flashing, bag sagging dork, yeah, I deplore them. Are alot of them black? Yep. Are some of them white? Yep. Am I a racist? Hmmmmm. I don't think so. I think it's more socio than race nowadays. How you act, how you talk, how you dress, etc. That's how you are treated.

first of all.....way too broad of a question to merit any serious answer....
second of all....you should be able to use the definition of eradicate and be able to answer your own question. Since racism is still evident in our society it obviously hasnt been eradicated, and there for we have not gone very far at all.

I think the US is still absolutely saturated with silly notions of race. Pretty much everyone holds at least some prejudices and forms stereotypes about certain races/ethnicities. We're socialized to distinguish and emphasize the differences from a young age.

The best way to look at this is to look at where we have been. Blacks started out as slaves and though there are a number of social issues that plague us as a racial group it is not as though we are held back from achievement in all places.
society as a whole is conscious of racism, because there are so many problems that stem from it, however, that does not stop the individual racist from showing how far we still need to go. You can look at current issues in the news involving CBS to see how society views open racism. they defining thought seems to be that you can have racist views as long as you keep them to yourself.

There will never be equality until we stop trying to perpetuate the equality. A persons true colours is the manifestation of their spirit within. People need to belong and do so by creating differences. With these differences there follows contempt and competition. Differences are used to reinforce a sense of belonging and unity.

Race consciousness today is very high. People tend to be very carefull what they say as it might be considered racist. Although there are more people who believe in equality and more people who are non-racist, bigots and racists still exist. You cant eradicate hate and thats what racism is.
