I am facinated with the movment west to California.
I would be a woman on a wagon train.
Settling in the west.

I feel that way because I can feel it within me. When I drive past an old ranch or I am in a small foothill town in the gold country.... I feel like I belong. I can feel the spirits of the people there. It is very powerful

Right at the turn of the 1900's in America - - - movies were just coming into play, vaudeville was at its peak, wages were steady and if one had a disposable income of say twenty-five grand a year they could live quite well (well, make that 50 G, oh heck, an even 100) - - - modern enough with flush toilets & toilet paper & running water - - - lots of newspapers & books plus a happening music scene with new inventions popping up 'all the time -- --an era of dynamic possibility.

Peace

No matter what era, historical locale, or historical social position I think of, I can't get around the fact that I'd have it worse off than I do today, in terms of opportunities, amenities and rights. We truly do have a near-meritocracy in modern America.

As far as momentous opportunities, I think those white male Americans born in the 1880s and who died in the 1950s and '60s had the greatest chance for amazing contributions (due to the events that occurred in that span) in a uniquely American way, forged by hard work and without the spoiling amenities of today.

I personally think during the Civil War times. What a wonderful era!
Just think how far we've come as a nation since then.

For me it would have to be right after The Union, (The U.S. when it had 13 stars on the Flag) bought the Louisiana purchase and everyone started heading west. It must have been terribly hard but at the same time exciting knowing that you can go west and settle pretty much where ever you pleased. I really can't imagine all the hardships they must have endured, but at the same time you are going in to pretty much un-screwed with territory. I think that just going about your day hunting and building things and living day to day must have been really tough but at the same time must have just been an amazing experience. I sometimes don't like all the so-called luxuries we enjoy today. I know me myself would have been happier w/ out all this fast paced crap we have these days. Well that is just my opinion, but don't pick mine for the best answer unless you think about that time period. Thanks
