John Lennon announced his departure to the rest of the group on 20 September 1969 but was talked out of saying anything about it publicly.

In March 1970 the Get Back session tapes were given to American producer Phil Spector, who had produced Lennon's solo single "Instant Karma!". Spector's "Wall of Sound" production was against the original intent of the record, which had been to record a stripped-down live performance. McCartney was deeply dissatisfied with Spector's treatment of "The Long and Winding Road", and unsuccessfully attempted to halt release of Spector's version of the song. McCartney publicly announced the break-up on 10 April 1970, a week before releasing his first solo album, McCartney. Pre-release copies included a press release with a self-written interview explaining the end of the Beatles and his hopes for the future. On 8 May 1970, the Spector-produced version of Get Back was released as Let It Be, followed by the documentary film of the same name. The Beatles' partnership was finally dissolved in 1975.

This was the core reason responsible for the breakup of the legendary band.

Their musical tastes were heading in different directions, as well as what they wanted to do with their lives: Lennon's political activism, Harrison's eastern spirituality, Ringo's acting. Combine this with the pressure of being the biggest band in the world and the amount of music they put out together. I think after so much touring, most bands just get worn out. I've had some good friends that I wound up having later as roommates, and it almost destroyed our friendships, trying to coexist in a small space. I know Yoko and drugs and other factors played their parts, but in the end if you watch any documentaries on them, I think they were just tired.

Yoko Ono turned John away from the band. She caused turmoil with them.

People wanted to go solo. Tired of being the Beatles...I'd like to say Yoko...but I don't really think that's the case. She just bothers me.
