mine is a ceylon sapphire and diamonds....I believe it is called the Boston Setting.....lovely....I prefer diamonds with stones of color to just diamonds...of course, I wouldn't turn away from a perfect emerald cut in about a 4-5 C size...hmmmmm

My advice is to get her something really cheap...maybe a copper ring with no stone whatsoever. Perhaps a ring from a box of cracker jacks. When you present it to her during your proposal, you will see the sincerity of hr heart, should she accept. After she accepts, you can present a more proper engagement ring. The first ring will show her love for you, the second your love for her. As to a stone, might I suggest a diamond in the center with each of your birthstones o the sides of the diamond. For reference, the grooms stone should be on the right of the diamond--you always want to be on the "right side" of your lady! Good luck and God's Blessings!

Diamonds are the traditional form of an engadgement ring... If you are getting a promise ring... thats more for a different stone like ruby or saphirre. You cant ever go wrong with a diamond. It doesnt need to be expensive either as long as its real. They last forever.

Diamond because they'll never go out of style.
Although i DID want a pink diamond. Oh well. Mine's gorgeous. Diamonds shine better anyway. :-)

traditionally, It is diamond. personally, I am not to keen on diamond, so my husband bought me a real, gorgeous Sapphire. (my birthstone.) I think birthstones are a wonderful alternative to the traditional diamond. It depends what the girl herself likes. but if you were going to go for anything besides diamond, a birthstone would be the best bet, its very sentimental. :)
