or 'that's personal' or 'I don't answer personal questions' or 'I'd rather not say' or 'that's more informationt then I would like to give right now'....

what the heck would you think? Would you be offended? Would you continue talking to them?

That's really rude, but people tend to be that way. I'd just be like 'whatever.'

I would not care it is none of there business in the first place you can ask or they can ask but they need to respect the answer you give. If they do not then that is rude and yes I would be offended.

There is nothing personal about asking someone a camping related question. This person is weird- don't make any sudden movements or eye contact just slowly move away from this individual and don't look back.

No I would think they don't want to be followed or stalked. If I was going somewhere I would never give exact place where just in case I get some weirdo following me. But that's just me I am paranoid.

Yeah I've met a couple of people like that and I think they are a bit odd! I didn't talk to them much.

Maybe they are "fasting" (unlikely but my point is there a vast host of different reasons) some people feel better keeping things private

I would think that either they didn't want me to show up at their campsite or they really weren't going camping.
