(X - .2344 / X) * 100 = 11.34

Can someone help solve for X please? Im trying to find the "actual" value. (This is the percent error formula where I have both the error and the experimental value, but not the actual.) Thanks!

We have
(x-0.2344/x) = 0.1134

Multiply by x throughout, and you end up with a quadratic as
x^2 - 0.1134x -0.2344 = 0.

Solve for x using the formula for quadratic equations.

(X - 0.2344 / X) * 100 = 11.34
divide both sides by 100
(x - 0.2344) / x = 0.1134
x - 0.2344 = 0.1134x ----------> we can do multiply the denominator x to the right side because we have an equality sign.
then transpose 0.1134x to the left side and -0.2344 to the right.
we'll have the equation:
x - 0.1134x = 0.2344
0.8866x = 0.2344
x = 0.2344 / 0.8866
x = 0.2644 --------------> this is now our actual value

try to check if the answer we have gotten is correct. let's substitute the values.
percent error = {[(actual value - experimental value) / actual value]} * 100
we will make the percent error as our missing data
then plug in the values:
actual value = 0.2644
experimental value = 0.2344

% error = {[(0.2644 - 0.2344) / 0.2644]} * 100
= {[(0.03) / 0.2644]} * 100
= (0.11346) * 100
% error = 11.34

therefore, our answer is correct!=)

quadratic formula for solving roots:

root 1) [-b+sqrt(b^2 - 4ac) ] / 2a
root 2) [-b-sqrt(b^2 - 4ac) ] / 2a

in order to use the formula...
convert your equation into this type ax^2 + bx + c = 0

now let's convert your equation:
(x - 0.2344/x)100 = 11.34
100x - 23.44/x = 11.34
(100x^2 - 23.44)/x = 11.34
100x^2 - 23.44 = 11.34x
100x^2 - 11.34x - 23.44 = 0
there!

so your a = 100, b = -11.34, and c = -23.44

now use the formula above to solve for the roots of X:
root 1 = x = 0.544157577
root 2 = x = -0.430757577

to check if the roots are correct, simply substitute the value of x to your equation (either the original or the converted one)
^_^ hope you got it!

(X - 0.2344 / X) * 100 = 11.34 --->divide boths sides of equation by 100
(X - 0.2344 / X) = 0.1134 ---> multiply both sides by X
X - 0.2344 = 0.1134X ---> put all X's on one side and numbers on the other side
0.8866X = 0.2344 ---> divide both sides by 0.8866 to get X
X =0.2344/0.8866
X=0.2644
