I would ask her to be honest and tell her why you are asking because of the behavior. BUT, I would say to her "Are things with your husband ok?" rather then "Does your husband abuse you?" IF you ask that she is going to defend him and lie, but if you get her to open up and just speak a little gently about problems they might have, the answer could just come out after a few conversations.

I think you already know the answer to your question. I think the wife needs help. Maybe you can suggest counseling or some type of help if possible. Just be careful because sometimes the victim doesn't see the problem or is to afraid to admit to it. good luck

see if she will open up to you. Ask her open questions like "How are you and your husband doing" If she responds with tears or breaks down and tells you things he has said or done to her then call the police and file a report, and get her into a psychologist as soon as you can
